Catherine Everett, (born 1957) is a Canadian abstract painter.

Early life

Catherine Everett was born and raised in Montreal. She received her Bachelor's degree in visual arts from Concordia University in 1980 and in 1988 she went on to receive her Master's of Fine Arts from the same university. [1]

Art

Catherine Everett works in sculpture, painting and drawing. Her work is described as a material exploration and the visual depiction of an interior and mysterious world. [2] Her work is compared to that of Willem de Kooning, Jean-Paul Riopelle [3] and Anselm Kiefer. [4] Everett describes her work as, "the desire to give substance to things in the world that are not visible – the internal, the emotional, the spiritual –a way of attempting to assign to these concerns a more specific place in a world that seems to have already too much weight, gravity, density". [5]

Career highlights

From 1985 to 1996 Everett showed with the Montreal gallery Rene Blouin [6] and since 2004 she shows with the Montreal gallery Han Art. [7] Everett received attention early in her career and was described by one reviewer as, "one of the most rigorous and talented local artists of her generation". [8] Her work has shown with other prominent Montreal artists like Betty Goodwin, Peter Krausz and Guido Molinari. Everett's work has shown in Ottawa, Montreal, Prince Edward Island, Mexico and Quebec City. [7]

Catherine Farish RCA is a Canadian artist known for experimental, contemporary printmaking. Elected to the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts in 2008, her large-format work unites "the discipline of engraving, free use of the plastic arts and the expressive force of lyric abstraction." Described as "one of Quebec's most innovative contemporary printmakers", she was awarded the 1992 Grand Prize, Loto-Quebec (1992), Montreal Acquisition Award (1992), and Boston Printmakers' Material Award (1997). Her work is found in the collections of the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec, and the Canada Council for the Arts Art Bank.

Known for painting and photographic portraits, Tremblay's artistic approach is described as "a dialogue between two media, photography and painting". He is the recipient of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts' 2015 RCA Trust Award, the 2003 Prix Louis-Comtois, and, as cinematographer of Gugging, the 1996 Special Jury Prize, International Festival of Films on Art and Pedagogy. <span class="mw-page-title-main">Suzanne Rivard-Lemoyne</span>

Suzanne Rivard-Lemoyne was an artist born in Quebec City, Quebec who later moved to Ottawa, Ontario and is known for her significant contribution to arts administration. She was responsible for developing Art Bank, the Canada Council's art collection program in 1972. Rivard-Lemoyne became a Visual Arts Officer for the Canada Council in 1970 and started the art collection and leasing system for government offices, offering regional artists support and those interested in collecting access to local art. She played a major role in supporting and developing the local community of artist-run centres and contemporary art galleries. Rivard-Lemoyne won the 2003 Governor General's Awards in Visual and Media Arts for Outstanding Contribution in arts support.

Jean-Paul Jérôme was a painter, designer and sculptor, who was a co-founder of Les Plasticiens in 1955. He was a key figure in Quebec's abstract art scene of the second half of the 20th century.
