Catherine Dunn Heller Keating is an American author,philanthropist,and politician who served as the First Lady of Oklahoma from 1995 to 2003.
Born in Tulsa,Oklahoma,Keating married Frank Keating and became the First Lady of Oklahoma when he was elected Governor of Oklahoma. During her tenure she organized official ceremonies after the Oklahoma City bombing and ran for the United States House of Representatives in a 2002 special election. She was inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame in 2011 and the Oklahoma Women's Hall of Fame in 2023.
Catherine Dunn Heller was born in Tulsa,Oklahoma to Harvey Augustus Heller Jr. and Frances Herndon. She attended the University of Oklahoma and majored in elementary education. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta. [1] She was crowned "Miss Wool" of Oklahoma,Missouri,and Arkansas by Lieutenant Governor George Nigh. [2] In 1972 she married Francis Anthony Keating II. [3]
Keating served as the First Lady of Oklahoma from 1995 to 2003. She planned and organized the International Prayer Service after the Oklahoma City bombing. During her tenure she founded the Friends of the Oklahoma Governor's Mansion,Septemberfest,and created the Capitol Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony. She served on the boards of charities such as the Habitat for Humanity International Women's Build and the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum. She was inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame in 2011 and has authored three books:Our Governors Mansions,Ooh La La:Cuisine Presented in a Stately Manner,and In Their Name. [2] She was inducted into the Oklahoma Women's Hall of Fame in 2023. [4]
In April 2001 Keating announces her campaign for Oklahoma's 1st congressional district to succeed Steve Largent. [5] She advanced to a run-off alongside John Sullivan,but withdrew from the race citing a desire to not campaign negatively. [6] Her husband Frank Keating controversially called Tulsans "very dumb" for not supporting his wife's campaign. [7]

A member of the Oklahoma Legislature,he went on to become both the 18th and 23rd governor of Oklahoma,mainly in the 1960s and again in the 1980s,as well as a two-term United States Senator in the 1970s. He was the first Republican to serve as Governor of Oklahoma and,after his direct predecessor George Nigh,only the second governor to be reelected.

George Patterson Nigh is an American politician and civic leader from the U.S. state of Oklahoma. Nigh served as the 17th and the 22nd governor of Oklahoma and as the eighth and tenth lieutenant governor of Oklahoma. He was the first Oklahoma governor to be re-elected and the first to win all 77 counties in the state. Additionally,short term vacancies in the governor's office twice resulted in Nigh assuming gubernatorial duties while serving as lieutenant governor.

Both of the major parties held primaries to determine their nominees. The Republican primary featured a competitive contest between then-First Lady of Oklahoma Cathy Keating,and state Senator Scott Pruitt,and the eventual winner state Representative John Sullivan. Sullivan subsequently defeated Tulsa School Board present Doug Dodd by a ten point margin.
Nancy G. Feldman was a civil rights activist and longtime educator from the U.S. state of Illinois. Feldman taught at the University of Tulsa for thirty-seven years and lectured across the United States and internationally. Feldman was inducted to the Oklahoma Women's Hall of Fame in 1995. Her advocating for the expansion of art education in Tulsa public schools remains one of her biggest legacies. Feldman and her husband traveled to some of the most remote locations in the world during their retirement and worked to connect Tulsa with the world through the Tulsa Global Alliance.
Joan Hastings, was a politician from the U.S. state of Oklahoma. Elected to the Oklahoma House of Representatives in 1975,Hastings served district 67 until 1984. After serving in the legislature,Hastings served for 16 years as Tulsa County Clerk,retiring in 2001. After retiring from public office,Hastings worked in real estate in the Tulsa area. She is an inductee of the Tulsa Central Hall of Fame.
Chloe Brown is a longtime educator in the Tulsa Public Schools district,who was the first African-American teacher at Eliot Elementary School. First African American Reading Specialist in Jenks Public Schools. She is an active member of the Tulsa community,volunteering to tutor homeless children,distribute food,and work with women in crisis. Ministers at the Turley Correctional Center. Brown founded The Chloe House in 2006,a transition home for women that provides housing,training for employment,and resources to help them re-enter society. She is also a licensed minister and was inducted into the Oklahoma Women's Hall of Fame in 2011. Chloe and her husband Doug are Grief Share and Marriage Coaches.
Jacqulyn "Jackie" Longacre is the former executive director of Planned Parenthood in Tulsa,Oklahoma. In the eighteen years she was the director of the Tulsa campus,they grew from serving 1,600 patients to serving over 10,000 patients in a single year and were awarded the Fairchild Award,the highest award available for being a quality service affiliate. Longacre played a vital part in establishing Reproductive Services in Tulsa as well as Tulsa County Perinatal Coalition. In 1993,she was inducted in the Oklahoma Women’s Hall of Fame.
Kate Frank was a Missouri-born,Oklahoma teacher who taught for nearly 50 years. She was instrumental in the founding of the Oklahoma Education Association,served as its first president,and later,donated the initial monies for the trust that became a legal defense fund for educators. She served as vice president of the National Education Association in the 1940s and was the first national Retired Teacher of the Year recipient. Honored by many awards,she was inducted into the Oklahoma Women's Hall of Fame in 1983.
Alma Dorothy Bell Wilson was an Oklahoma attorney who was appointed as the second female district judge in the state of Oklahoma in 1975. In 1982,she was elevated as the first woman to serve on the Oklahoma Supreme Court and between 1995 and 1997 was the first woman chief justice. Wilson was honored by many awards in her lifetime including induction into the Oklahoma Women's Hall of Fame,the Oklahoma Hall of Fame and was named Appellate Judge of the Year in both 1986 and 1989.
