Catherine Ruge (born June 25, 1982) [1] is a Tanzanian politician who served as the Chadema (Special Seats) MP for Serengeti, between 2017 and 2020. [2] [3] [4]

Early years and education

Ruge graduated high school in Dodoma in 2003. She attended the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) from 2004 to 2007, obtaining a degree in Business and Accounting. In 2015 she gained her master's degree in Business Management at the Eastern and Southern African Management Institute. Currently, she is pursuing a doctoral degree (PhD) at UDSM on gender issues in the field of accounting. Ruge is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), holding the CPA certificate accredited by the National Board of Accountants and Auditors (NBAA) in Tanzania. [5] [3]

Politics

Ruge entered politics while attending UDSM. In 2005, she became a youth activist in the Ubungo constituency, helping John Mnyika to win the election as member of parliament. She joined Chadema in 2010, and successfully ran for the position of Finance Secretary in the Serengeti region. On May 4, 2017 she was appointed by the Chadema NEC to be the Chairman of the party's Special Seats, replacing Dr Elly Marco Macha. [6] [7]

Moshi is a municipality and the capital of Kilimanjaro region in the north eastern Tanzania. As of 2017, the municipality has an estimated population of 201,150 and a population density of 3,409 persons per km2. In the last official census of 2012, the municipality had a population of 184,292. The municipality is situated on the lower slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro, a dormant volcano that is the highest mountain in Africa. The name Moshi has been reported to refer to the smoke that emanates from the nearby mountain. The University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) is a public university in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. It was established in 1961 as an affiliate college of the University of London. The university became an affiliate of the University of East Africa (UEA) in 1963, shortly after Tanzania gained its independence from the United Kingdom. In 1970, UEA split into three independent universities: Makerere University in Uganda, the University of Nairobi in Kenya, and the University of Dar es Salaam.

Edward Ngoyai Lowassa is a Tanzanian politician who was Prime Minister of Tanzania from 2005 to 2008, serving under President Jakaya Kikwete. Lowassa has gone into record as the first Prime Minister to have been forced to resign by a fraud scandal in the history of Tanzania. Following his resignation President Kikwete was obliged to dissolve his cabinet as required by the Constitution and with minimum delay, constituted a new one under a new Prime Minister, Mizengo Pinda.

2015 Tanzanian general election General election in Tanzania

General elections were held in Tanzania on 25 October 2015. Voters elected the president, members of Parliament, and local government councillors. Since January 2015, she is the executive director and CEO of the Unclaimed Financial Assets Authority (UFAA), an agency of the central government of Kenya. The government agency, created by Act of parliament in 2011, collects unclaimed funds in the financial system, including un-cashed checks, unclaimed insurance proceeds, cash in dormant bank accounts and money in similar situations in financial institutions. The UFAA then attempts to re-unite the funds with their rightful owners or heirs, upon proper identification. Nandy (singer) Tanzanian singer and songwriter from Kilimanjaro Region.

Faustina Charles Mfinanga, popularly known by her stage name Nandy is a Tanzanian actress, singer and songwriter of Pare heritage, she was born and raised in the city of Moshi in Kilimanjaro Region. She won the All Africa Music Awards twice in the best female artist in East Africa category in 2017 and 2020. Nandy is regarded as one of the best and successful artists in Tanzania of all time.

Cecilia Daniel Paresso is a Tanzanian politician and a member of the CHADEMA political party. She was elected as a member of the Special Seats in 2015. She has bachelor degree from the Open University of Tanzania in 2011.

Ruge Mutahaba was a Tanzanian bureaucrat. He served as Director of Strategy and Programs Development at Clouds Media Group. In 2012 he had his first child Russell Mutahaba with Tanzanian presenter Zamaradi Mketema and in 2015 his second Koku Shubira Mutahaba.

Adolf Faustine Mkenda, is a Tanzanian Minister of Education, Science and Technology, having previously served as Minister of Agriculture. An associate professor of Economics at the University of Dar es Salaam and a politician who presently serve as a Chama Cha Mapinduzi's Member of Parliament for Rombo constituency since November 2020.
