Sherwood Park is a large hamlet in Alberta, Canada within Strathcona County that is recognized as an urban service area. It is located adjacent to the City of Edmonton's eastern boundary, generally south of Highway 16, west of Highway 21 and north of Highway 630. Other portions of Sherwood Park extend beyond Yellowhead Trail and Wye Road, while Anthony Henday Drive (Highway 216) separates Refinery Row to the west from the balance of the hamlet to the east.
Strathcona County is a specialized municipality in the Edmonton Metropolitan Region within Alberta, Canada between Edmonton and Elk Island National Park. It forms part of Census Division No. 11.
Stephen Mandel is a Canadian politician and leader of the Alberta Party from 2018 to 2019. He previously served as an Alberta cabinet minister from 2014 to 2015 and as mayor of Edmonton, Alberta for three terms from 2004 to 2013. Prior to being mayor, he was a councillor for three years.

Sherwood Park Freeway is a 7.1-kilometre (4.4 mi) freeway that connects east Edmonton to Sherwood Park in Alberta, Canada. It begins in the Gainer Industrial area where Argyll Road and 82 (Whyte) Avenue merge before intersecting 50 Street. It then curves slightly northeast through industrial areas in southeast Edmonton across 34 Street into Strathcona County, then across 17 Street after which the freeway ends at Anthony Henday Drive. It then continues into Sherwood Park as Wye Road (Highway 630). It is primarily a commuter route, with heavier weekday volume westbound in the morning and eastbound in the afternoon as residents of Sherwood Park commute to Edmonton.
Wye Road is a major arterial road and rural highway that links Sherwood Park from Anthony Henday Drive on the east side of Edmonton to Highway 14 west of Tofield. It is preceded by Sherwood Park Freeway, and east of Highway 21 is designated as Alberta Provincial Highway No. 630, commonly referred to as Highway 630. Wye Road is part of a 40-kilometre-long (25 mi) continuous roadway that runs through Sherwood Park, Edmonton, and St. Albert that includes Sherwood Park Freeway, Whyte Avenue, portions of University Avenue and Saskatchewan Drive, Groat Road, and St. Albert Trail.
Municipal elections were held in Alberta, Canada on Monday, October 15, 2007. Since 1968, provincial legislation has required every municipality to hold triennial elections. Mayors (reeves), councillors (aldermen), and trustees were elected to office in 15 of the 16 cities, all 111 towns, all 99 villages, all 4 specialized municipalities, all 64 municipal districts, 3 of the 7 improvement districts, and the advisory councils of the 3 special areas. The City of Lloydminster is on the Saskatchewan schedule, and held elections on October 25, 2006 and October 28, 2009, while 4 improvement districts have no councils and are led solely by the Minister of Municipal Affairs. Since the 2004 municipal elections, the Town of Lac La Biche and Lakeland County amalgamated to form Lac La Biche County, the villages of Irricana and Onoway became towns, the Town of Brooks became a city, and the Village of Sangudo was dissolved.
The City of Edmonton has experienced a series of municipal boundary adjustments over its history since originally incorporating as a town in 1892 through incorporation as a city, amalgamation or annexation of other urban municipalities, annexation of rural lands from its surrounding neighbours, and separation of lands back to its rural neighbours. Its most recent annexations, which came into effect on January 1, 2019, involved acquisition of lands from predominantly Leduc County as well as Beaumont and Sturgeon County.
The 2010 Strathcona County municipal election was held Monday, October 18, 2010. Since 1968, provincial legislation has required every municipality to hold triennial elections. The citizens of Strathcona County, Alberta, elected one mayor, five of their eight councillors, four of the Elk Island Public Schools Regional Division No. 14's nine trustees, and four of the Elk Island Catholic Separate Regional Division No. 41's seven trustees. Three incumbent councillors had no challengers, and the candidate for public school trustee Strathcona County south had no challengers.
Jacquie Fenske is a Canadian politician, who served as interim leader of the Alberta Party from 2020 to 2021. She served on Strathcona County Council from 1995 to 1998, and again from 2004 to 2012. Fenske then went into provincial politics as a Progressive Conservative, representing the riding of Fort Saskatchewan-Vegreville from 2012 to 2015. In the 2015 provincial election, the seat was won by NDP candidate, Jessica Littlewood.
Ken Lemke is a politician in Alberta, Canada. He served as mayor of Stony Plain from 2007 to 2012. Lemke then went into provincial politics, and represented Stony Plain from 2012 to 2015, as a Progressive Conservative.

The 2014 Progressive Conservative Association of Alberta leadership election was prompted by Alison Redford's announcement that she would be resigning as leader of the Progressive Conservatives and Premier of Alberta on March 23, 2014.
