Cecil the Lion Had to Die

Cecil the Lion Had to Die is a 2021 novel by Ukrainian historian and writer Olena Stiazhkina published by Harvard University Press. [1]

In Ukrainian book criticism, the novel was recognized as a major work about eastern Ukraine. A 2022 review in the cultural outlet Tyktor described it as one of the strongest Ukrainian novels of the year and emphasised its blend of family saga and reflection on war and memory. [2]
