The United States Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), also known as the Health Department, is a cabinet-level department of the U.S. federal government with the goal of protecting the health of all Americans and providing essential human services. Its motto is "Improving the health, safety, and well-being of America". Before the separate federal Department of Education was created in 1979, it was called the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare (HEW).

The Child Support Agency (CSA) was a delivery arm of the Department for Work and Pensions in Great Britain and the former Department for Social Development in Northern Ireland. Launched on 5 April 1993, the CSA failed to implement the Child Support Act 1991 and subsequent legislation fairly leaving tens of thousands of non residential parents paying out more than they would if they had their children full time. The CSA was replaced in the long term by its successor launched in 2012, the Child Maintenance Service (CMS). Lessons have not been learnt and CMS still fails to consider outgoings of non residential parents, the income of residential parents and fails to perform even a basic check that the money is being spent on the children.
