The Central West Senior Hockey League (CWSHL) is a senior ice hockey league in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. The league competed for the Herder Memorial Trophy and its teams declared themselves eligible for the Allan Cup.
On June 4, 2014 four teams from the Newfoundland Senior Hockey League, the Clarenville Caribous, Western Royals, Gander Flyers and the Grand Falls-Windsor Cataracts, officially announced their departure and formed a new league to be the Central West Senior Hockey League (CWSHL).
On February 25, 2015, Hockey Newfoundland and Labrador approved a request by the Central West Senior Hockey League in which they asked to play for the historic Herder Trophy because it was the only operating Senior A hockey league registered in the province.
Hockey NL announced on September 20, 2015 that beginning in March 2016 the CWSHL champions will play the Avalon East Senior Hockey League champions in a best-of-five Herder final series. [1]
After a hiatus of over 6 seasons, the CWSHL restarted and the newly formed league consisted of four teams for the 2023-2024 season.

Grand Falls-Windsor is a town located in the central region of the island of Newfoundland in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, with a population of 13,853 at the 2021 census. The town is the largest in the central region, the sixth largest in the province, and is home to the annual Exploits Valley Salmon Festival. Grand Falls-Windsor was incorporated in 1991, when the two former towns of Grand Falls and Windsor amalgamated.

Tobin was awarded the position of Honorary Secretary by the league for his contributions to hockey and sport in general, and held this position for more than 40 years. With the support of the Anglo-Newfoundland Development Company, owners of the town's pulp and paper mill and the builder of a new state-of-the-art stadium in 1947, the team that later became known as the Andcos built a strong roster with imported players and dominated Newfoundland senior hockey during the 1950s.

The 2016 Allan Cup was the Canadian championship of senior ice hockey and the 108th year the Allan Cup was awarded. The tournament was contended in Steinbach, Manitoba from April 11 to April 16, 2016, with all games played at the T.G. Smith Centre. The Bentley Generals defeated the host and defending champion South East Prairie Thunder in overtime to win the national title.
The 2017 Allan Cup was the Canadian championship of senior ice hockey and the 109th year the Allan Cup was awarded. The tournament was played at the J.K. Irving Centre in Bouctouche, New Brunswick from April 10 to 15, 2017 and won by the Grand Falls-Windsor Cataracts.
The Buchans Miners were a senior ice hockey team based in Buchans, Newfoundland and Labrador and were a member of the Newfoundland Senior Hockey League. The Miners were awarded the Herder Memorial Trophy seven times as all-Newfoundland senior hockey champions, including three consecutive championships from 1950 to 1952. The club folded in 1970 but came back for one season in the late seventies.
