The Centre for the Study of Democratic Institutions (CSDI) at the University of British Columbia (UBC) is a research institute for the teaching and study of innovation in democratic practice and institutions. Established in 2002, the centre engage with scholars, public officials and students in research and teaching, and also works closely with governmental and non-governmental organizations. [1]

The centre is formally housed in the UBC School of Public Policy and Global Affairs (SPPGA), and operates in association with faculty in the UBC Department of Political Science. [2]

The Summer Institute for Future Legislators, one of its more prominent activities, is now in its sixth year. The program promotes mentorship between participants and individuals with experience in the field of politics, including former elected government representatives, political journalists and academic experts. [3]

The Harold and Dorrie Merilees Chair for the Study of Democracy

The centre is funded by the Harold and Dorrie Merilees Chair for the Study of Democracy, [4] The chair was established in 2002 by a donation from Gail and Stephen Jarislowsky, through the Jarislowsky Foundation. The chair is currently located within the UBC Department of Political Science. [5]

The Centre for Research in the Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities (CRASSH) is an interdisciplinary research centre within the University of Cambridge.
