The Chaipattana Foundation is a non-government organization founded by King Bhumibol operating in Thailand since 1988, that develops projects of national and social benefit to the Thai people. The Foundation's aim is to provide prompt, timely, and necessary responses to problems affecting the people of Thailand. "Chaipattana" means Victory of Development. [1]

The foundation is not subject to the budgetary constraints or regulatory requirements of government agencies. The Foundation is officially registered as a legal entity at the Ministry of the Interior. [2] All committee members have the freedom to consider and initiate work activities. [3]

Agricultural development

"Cultivation is regarded as a highly important occupation for it produces essentials of life. Without cultivation, we would not have raw materials for food and garments or any construction work. Hence, we have to conduct agriculture."

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Ananda Mahidol</span> King of Siam from 1935 to 1946

Ananda Mahidol was the eighth king of Siam from the Chakri dynasty, titled Rama VIII. At the time he was recognised as king by the National Assembly in March 1935, he was a nine-year-old boy living in Switzerland. He returned to Thailand in December 1945, but six months later, in June 1946, he was found shot dead in his bed. Although at first thought to have been an accident, his death was ruled a murder by medical examiners, and three royal aides were later executed following very irregular trials. The mysterious circumstances surrounding his death have been the subject of much controversy.

Bhumibol Adulyadej, conferred with the title King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great, was the ninth king of Thailand from the Chakri dynasty, titled Rama IX, from 1946 until his death in 2016. His reign of 70 years and 126 days is the longest of any Thai monarch, the longest of an independent Asian sovereign and the third longest verified reign of any monarch of a sovereign state in history after Louis XIV and Elizabeth II.

Mahitala Dhibesra Adulyadej Vikrom, the Prince Father, formerly Prince Mahidol Adulyadej, Prince of Songkla or Mahidol Songkla, was the father of King Ananda Mahidol and King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand, and the paternal grandfather of King Vajiralongkorn. He was also regarded as the father of modern medicine and public health in Thailand. He also founded the House of Mahidol or the present Royal Family of Thailand. His two sons reigned for more than eight decades, longer than the Ibn Saud siblings of Saudi Arabia, and the Nahyan siblings of Abu Dhabi.

Chitralada Royal Villa is a royal villa located within Dusit Palace. This villa was permanent-residence of King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the longest-serving monarch of Thailand and Queen Sirikit. He moved there after the death of his older brother, King Rama VIII in the Grand Palace. The palace grounds, which are surrounded by a moat and guarded by the royal guards, also contain the Chitralada School, initially established for the children of the royal family and palace staffs. Chitralada Royal Villa has a Chitralada railway station which served for the royal family who lived in the villa. Prince Dipangkorn Rasmijoti was a pupil in the Chitralada School, the school is considered the most exclusive in Thailand.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Bhisadej Rajani</span> Thai royal (1922–2022)

Prince Bhisadej Rajani was a prince of Thailand, a member of the Thai royal family, and a member of the House of Rajani, a royal house which was originated by his father and descends from Chakri Dynasty. He was one of the longest-living royal personages in the Thai history. He was a close friend of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who was also his third-degree cousin. In addition, he was also an author and worked as one of the directors of the Royal Project Foundation for the late king.

<i>Khrui</i>

The khrui is a light outer garment worn as a gown or robe in certain ceremonial settings in Thailand. It is long-sleeved and open at the front, and is made of a sheer or mesh fabric, lined with a band of satin, felt or other material, and may be exquisitely embroidered. Dating from at least the 17th century, it was originally worn only in the royal court, but nowadays is most recognisable as the form of academic dress employed by many universities, especially Chulalongkorn University.

The Doi Kham Company was founded in 1994 by the Crown Property Bureau at the request of King Bhumibol Adulyadej to set up a business to buy products from royal projects and farmers at fair prices and sell quality products to the Thai population.

The Royal Project Foundation is a Thai non-profit organisation based in north Thailand. It was founded by King Bhumibol Adulyadej as an umbrella organization for his charitable initiatives and research. The focus of the foundation is to improve the quality of life of hill tribes. Ancillary goals are to reduce opium-growing and to revive forests and water resources. The Royal Project Foundation is considered one of the first and most successful projects for opium production elimination. It was awarded The Ramon Magsaysay Award for International Understanding in 1988.

Thai royal funerals are elaborate events, organised as royal ceremonies akin to state funerals. They are held for deceased members of the royal family, and consist of numerous rituals which typically span several months to over a year. Featuring a mixture of Buddhist and animist beliefs, as well as Hindu symbolism, these rituals include the initial rites that take place after death, a lengthy period of lying-in-state, during which Buddhist ceremonies take place, and a final cremation ceremony. For the highest-ranking royalty, the cremation ceremonies are grand public spectacles, featuring the pageantry of large funeral processions and ornate purpose-built funeral pyres or temporary crematoria known as merumat or men. The practices date to at least the 17th century, during the time of the Ayutthaya Kingdom. Today, the cremation ceremonies are held in the royal field of Sanam Luang in the historic centre of Bangkok.

The Chakri Naruebodindra Medical Institute (CNMI) (Thai: สถาบันการแพทย์จักรีนฤบดินทร์) is a medical institute of the Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University in Thailand. In addition to providing medical services to the general public, it is also one of the two main facilities for training students of the faculty.

Sa Pathum Palace is a royal residence in Pathum Wan District, Bangkok, Thailand. It has been a residence of the Thai Royal Family, especially the House of Mahidol, since the 19th century, and is the official residence of Princess Sirindhorn.

Mom Luang Dej Snidvongs was a Thai honorary academic. He was the President of the Privy Council of Thailand to King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Governor of the Bank of Thailand in 1949 to 1952. He was given the title of Luang Dejsahakorn.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">King Rama IX Memorial Park</span> Under-construction park in Bangkok, Thailand

King Rama IX Memorial Park is a public park currently under construction in the Dusit district of Bangkok, Thailand. The project was initiated by King Vajiralongkorn to commemorate his father King Bhumibol Adulyadej and mother Queen Sirikit. The park occupies the former grounds of the Nang Loeng Racecourse, the land of which is owned by the Crown Property Bureau, and construction is expected to last until 2024. The park has as its central feature a large bronze statue of King Bhumibol, which was unveiled by Vajiralongkorn on 13 October 2022, the sixth anniversary of the late king's death.
