Chair Poetry Evenings is an annual poetry festival held in the city of Kolkata by Chair Literary Trust. [1] [2] [3] The first edition of the festival was held in November 2018 with participation from poets from Australia, Slovenia, Ireland, France, Netherlands, Belgium, Macedonia and various parts of India. [4] [5] [6] The festival includes a Poetry on Cruise event across river Ganges on the ending day of the festival. [7]

Participating poets

Some of the participating poets in 2018 were Les Wicks, Subodh Sarkar, Manglesh Dabral, K. Satchidanandan, Rajesh Joshi, Miriam Van hee, Alfred Schaffer and others. The 2018 edition was inaugurated by Sankha Ghosh and Victor Banerjee. [8] [9] [10]

Sagar Island is an island in the Ganges delta, lying on the continental shelf of Bay of Bengal about 100 km south of Kolkata. This island forms the Sagar CD Block in Kakdwip subdivision of South 24 Parganas district in the Indian State of West Bengal. Although Sagar Island is a part of Sundarbans, it does not have any tiger habitation or mangrove forests or small river tributaries as is characteristic of the overall Sundarban delta. This island is a place of Hindu pilgrimage. Every year on the day of Makar Sankranti, hundreds of thousands of Hindus gather to take a holy dip at the confluence of river Ganges and Bay of Bengal and offer prayers (puja) in the Kapil Muni Temple. Kolkata Port Trust has a pilot station and a light house.

Poetry film is a subgenre of film that fuses the use of spoken word poetry, visual images, and sound. This fusion of image and spoken word creates what William Wees called the "Poetry-film" genre. <i>Noukadubi</i> (2011 film) 2011 Indian film

Noukadubi is a Bengali film directed by Rituparno Ghosh, released in January 2011. The movie is a period film set in the 1920s, based on a 1906 novel with the same name by Rabindranath Tagore, although the credits claim that the film is 'inspired' by the Tagore novel because Rituparno Ghosh has taken the skeleton of the original story and woven it with his own inputs – cerebral and emotional.

The Kobita Club is a literary group consisting of poetry lovers, specifically Bengali. The club was founded in early December 2011 by Surojit Chatterjee, music director and lead vocalist of Bangla Band, Surojit O Bondhura & Bhoomi. The Kobita Club was later developed as a website, where poets and poetry lovers all over the world, share creative thoughts and expressions in the form of poetry. The club is registered under the West Bengal Society Registration Act 1961.

Bashabi Fraser is an Indian-born Scottish academic, editor, translator, and writer. She is a Professor Emerita of English and Creative Writing at Edinburgh Napier University and an Honorary Fellow at the Centre for South Asian Studies at the University of Edinburgh and an Honorary Fellow of the Association of Literary Studies (ALS), Scotland, and a former Royal Literary Fund Fellow. She has authored and edited 23 books, published several articles and chapters, both academic and creative and as a poet.

Kavyanjali is collection of English poems by the Indian Kosali poet Haldhar Nag, translated by Surendra Nath. The book was first published in 2016 with a foreword written by Odia writer Manoj Das. The poems cover various themes such as spiritualism, social reality, cultural identity, etc. As of 2022, a total of 5 volumes of Kavyanjali have been published; the Vol.3 and Vol.4 are not collections of poems, but are epic poems and biographies respectively.
