Herath Mudiyanselage Vijitha Herath is a Sri Lankan politician who has served as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Gampaha District since 2000. He is the incumbent Minister of Buddha Sasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, National Integration, Social Security and Mass Media, Minister of Environment, Wildlife, Forest Resources, Water Supply, Plantation and Community, and Infrastructure, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Public Security, Minister of Rural and Urban Development, and Housing and Construction and Minister of Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation since 2024 under president Anura Kumara Dissanayake. He previously served as the Minister of Cultural Affairs & National Heritage from 2004 to 2005. Harini Amarasuriya surpassed the preferential vote count of Mahinda Rajapaksa, who contested from Kurunegala in the 2019 General Elections and gained 527,364 votes but in the same election Vijitha Herath sets a new record with 716,715 votes in Gampaha.
