Kwai Tsing is one of the 18 districts of Hong Kong. It consists of two parts - Kwai Chung and Tsing Yi Island. Kwai Tsing is part of the New Territories. It had a population of 520 572 in 2016. The district has the third least educated residents and their income is below average.
Tsing Yi, sometimes referred to as Tsing Yi Island, is an island in the urban area of Hong Kong, to the northwest of Hong Kong Island and south of Tsuen Wan. With an area of 10.69 km², the island has extended drastically by reclamation along almost all its natural shore and the annexation of Nga Ying Chau (牙鷹洲) and Chau Tsai. Three major bays or harbours, Tsing Yi Lagoon, Mun Tsai Tong and Tsing Yi Bay (青衣灣) in the northeast, have been completely reclaimed for new towns.
Kwai Chung is an urban area within Tsuen Wan New Town in the New Territories of Hong Kong. Together with Tsing Yi Island, it is part of the Kwai Tsing District District of Hong Kong. Kwai Chung is the site of the container port. It is also part of Tsuen Wan New Town. In 2000, it had a population of 287,000. Its area is 9.93 km². Areas within Kwai Chung include: Kwai Fong, Kwai Hing, Lai King, Tai Wo Hau.
Tsing Yi South Bridge, opened as the Tsing Yi Bridge in 1974, was the first bridge to Tsing Yi, Hong Kong. It spans Rambler Channel, linking Tsing Yi Island to the former Pillar Island, Kwai Chung. The bridge spans 610 metres and is 26 metres (85 feet) high. It contributed significantly to the development of Tsing Yi, particularly in the 1970s and 1980s. The name "Tsing Yi South Bridge" was adopted following the 1987 opening of the second bridge to Tsing Yi, the Tsing Yi North Bridge.
Nga Ying Chau, or Cap Island, was an island off the northeast shore of Tsing Yi Island of Hong Kong, separated by a small harbour, Mun Tsai Tong, with Tsuen Wan at its northeast, just across the Rambler Channel. When the small harbour was reclaimed for the development of a new town, the island became part of Tsing Yi Island. The island was once home to the CRC Oil Storage Depot, which later relocated to the other side of Tsing Yi Island owing to its proximity to the residential area. The former island is now a small hill on the northeast point of Tsing Yi Island, and Villa Esplanada, a private housing estate, stands on the hills.
Tung Wah Group of Hospitals S. C. Gaw Memorial College is a secondary school on Tsing Yi Island, Hong Kong. The school is surrounded by four resited villages, Tai Wong Ha, Yim Tin Kok, Lam Tin, and San Uk.
Chau Tsai was a small island off the southern shore of Nam Wan Kok on Tsing Yi Island, Hong Kong. It was also known as Chun Fa Rock, or Chung Hue Shik (春花石) in some historical documents. The island was merged with Tsing Yi Island by land reclamation for the construction of the CRC Oil Storage Depot.
Mayfair Gardens is the first private housing estate on Tsing Yi, Hong Kong. It was built by Sun Hung Kai Properties and established between 1982 and 1984. The estate is composed of eight residential buildings, namely Blocks 5 to 12.
Mun Tsai Tong or Moon Tsai Tong was a harbour located between northeast Tsing Yi Island and Nga Ying Chau in Hong Kong. It was reclaimed for the development of a new town on Tsing Yi Island in 1980s. The harbour became two public housing estates, Cheung On Estate and Cheung Fat Estate.
Tsing Yi Heung Sze Wui Road is one of the oldest roads on the Tsing Yi Island, Hong Kong. It was built to connect Tsing Yi Town and Tsing Yi Bridge when the bridge was being built. The name "Tsing Yi Heung Sze Wui" derives from the local Cantonese pronunciation of Tsing Yi Rural Committee. After the reclamation of Tsing Yi Lagoon and Tsing Yi Bay, the road ended at Chun Kwan Temple. The office building of the Tsing Yi Rural Committee is very close to the temple, though it is on Fung Shue Wo Road. Tsing Yi Fire Station and Tsing Yi Police Station are also on the road.
Chun Kwan Temple is a temple dedicated to Chun Kwan on Tsing Yi Island in Hong Kong. Chun Kwan was a commoner who had combatted pirates during the South Song Dynasty (960–1279).
Tsing Yi Peak or Sam Chi Heung (三支香) is a hill with three peaks occupying the southern half of the Tsing Yi Island, Hong Kong. The hill is situated on the western half of Victoria Harbour. Its peaks are good locations to observe the harbour and the channels among harbour islands. While situated in the south, a short hill Liu To Shan occupied the northwest of the island.
Tsing Yi Fire Station is the first fire station on the Tsing Yi Island, New Territories, Hong Kong. Located at the T-junction of Tsing Yi Heung Sze Wui Road and Cheung Wan Street on east side of the island, the station was once the sole station to cater the need for the rapid increase of population since late 1970s and the oil storage and heavy industries in the south and west.
Metroplaza is a shopping centre and office building officially opened in 1993. It is located in Kwai Fong, Hong Kong and is opposite to Kwai Fong Station of MTR. The mall is a shopping hub of adjacent areas of Kwai Fong, Lai King, Tsing Yi and Kwai Chung. While Metroplaza provides spacious shopping environment, another shopping centre Kwai Chung Plaza adjoining offers varieties of small shops.The mall is undergoing a major renovation as of January 2015.
Tsing Yi Police Station, once also known as Tsing Yi Division Police Station (青衣分區警署) is the only police station on Tsing Yi Island in Hong Kong. The station is located at Tsing Yi Heung Sze Wui Road, between Tsing Yi Police Married Quarters and Tsing Yi Fire Station, below Chung Mei Tsuen of Ha Ko Tan. Its front faces Greenfield Garden, a private housing estate.
