Chandra Monerawela

Chandra Monerawela (born 8 September 1937) is a Sri Lankan diplomat. He served as Sri Lankan High Commissioner to Singapore and to the United Kingdom.

Born in Kandy, Monerawela was educated at the Trinity College, Kandy and the University of Ceylon, Peradeniya. He joined the Ceylon Overseas Service in 1961. He served in the Ceylon's missions in Beijing from 1964 to 1967 and in Washington, D.C., from 1967 to 1970. From 1970 to 1974 he served as the Chief of protocol in the Ministry of External Affairs and Defence in Colombo. In 1974, he was posted to Bangkok as the Chargé d'affaires and Permanent representative to Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific. From 1980 to 1983, he served as the Director Economics Affairs at the Minister of Foreign Affairs. In 1984 he was appointed Sri Lankan High Commissioner to Singapore, before he was recalled and sent to London as Sri Lankan High Commissioner to the United Kingdom the same year to serve till 1990. He married Rupa De Silva in 1965. [1]

Navaratne Rajakaruna Wasala Mudiyanselage Tikiri Bandara Ilangaratne, popularly as T. B. Ilangaratne, was a Sri Lankan politician, author, dramatist, and theater actor. He was a Member of Parliament for Kandy, Galaha, Hewaheta and Kolonnawa in Colombo district. He served as the Sri Lankan Cabinet Minister of Labour, Housing, Social Services, Finance, Commerce, Food, Trade and Shipping and in other government positions in a career spanning three decades. He established the Employees' Provident Fund, Ceylon Petroleum Corporation and Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation and the People's Bank while in office. As a writer, Ilangaratne is best known for writing Amba Yaluwo (1957), a popular children's novel.

Hamilton Shirley Amerasinghe, CCS was a Sri Lankan diplomat and civil servant. He was High Commissioner to India and concurrently Ambassador to both Nepal and Afghanistan (1963–1967) and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance and Treasury and the Ministry of Health. Amerasinghe served as Ceylon's Permanent Representative to the United Nations 1967 to 1980 and served as President of the United Nations General Assembly in 1976. He was also one of the leaders of the negotiations to draft the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
