Chandru Selvaraj is an Indian cinematographer who works in the Malayalam film industry. [1] [2] [3] He has received two Kerala State Film Award, one for Kayattam (2020) [4] and another for Vazhakku . [5]

Early life

Chandru was born in Ooty, Tamil Nadu. His father's job required frequent transfers, which eventually led his family to settle in Chennai. Initially, Chandru pursued a career in engineering because of the suggestions from his family. However, he made the bold decision to take up filmmaking despite initial objections from his family. [3]

Career

He started his career by assisting cinematographer Tirru. He has assisted on seven films in a span of four years, during which he was introduced to Sanal Kumar Sasidharan by one of Karthik Subbaraj's associate while they were working on Petta (2019). [1]

In 2021, Chandru won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Cinematography in Kayattam (2020), which was his debut film in the Malayalam film industry. [2] The film was entirely shot on an iPhone XS Max in the Himalayas. [6]

In 2022, He worked on Stephy Zaviour's directorial debut, Madhura Manohara Moham starring Sharafudheen and Rajisha Vijayan. [7] His collaboration with director Sanal Kumar Sasidharan on 'Kayattam' was a significant turning point in his career as he got to work with him again on 2022. [1] [8]

<i>Madhura Manohara Moham</i> 2023 Indian film

Madhura Manohara Moham is a 2023 Indian Malayalam-language comedy drama film directed by Stephy Zaviour and written by Mahesh Gopal and Jai Vishnu. The film features an ensemble cast with Sharaf U Dheen, Rajisha Vijayan, Bindu Panicker, Aarsha Chandini Baiju, Vijayaraghavan and Saiju Kurup. Set in Kumbazha, the story revolves around the events surrounding the lives of siblings Manu and Meera and the unexpected truths that unfold.

The 53rd Kerala State Film Awards, presented by the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy, was announced by Saji Cherian, Minister of Cultural Affairs, Kerala on 21 July 2023.

Vazhakku (transl. Quarrel) is a 2022 Malayalam film directed and edited by Sanal Kumar Sasidharan and starring Tovino Thomas, Kani Kusruti, Sudev Nair, and Azees Nedumangad. The film is about a lawyer named Siddharthan who is going through a divorce. He meets a woman named Sathi and her daughter, who are also going through marital problems. The two families are going through their difficult times.
