Through a career that spanned over six decades, he worked in more than 100 films. Anand is a recipient of four Filmfare Awards, including two for Best Actor. The Government of India honoured him with Padma Bhushan, Indian third highest civilian honour in 2001 and with Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2002.

Kyon Ki (transl. Because) is a 2005 Indian romantic drama film written and directed by Priyadarshan and produced by Sunil Manchanda and Mukesh Talreja. The film is a remake of Priyadarshan's own 1986 Malayalam film Thalavattam which in turn was inspired by the 1975 movie One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest which was adapted from Ken Kesey's 1962 novel of the same name. The film stars Salman Khan, Jackie Shroff, Kareena Kapoor, Suniel Shetty, Rimi Sen and Om Puri in pivotal roles, and tells the story of Anand, a mental patient whose past draws a female doctor, Tanvi, close to him, testing her own beliefs and challenging her authoritarian father, the administrator of the sanatorium in which Anand has been admitted.
Jaani Dushman: Ek Anokhi Kahaani is a 2002 Indian Hindi-language fantasy action thriller film directed and produced by Rajkumar Kohli, making it his last film as a director. Blackmail depicts the life of a married-man in his late 30s stuck in a full day-time job and unexciting life but things turn after he finds that his wife is having an extramarital affair. The film had its theatrical release in India on 6 April 2018 and turned out to be a Sleeper Hit at the box office.
