The University of Lagos (UNILAG) is a public research university located in Lagos, Nigeria, which was founded in 1962. UNILAG is one of the first generation universities in Nigeria and is ranked among the top universities in Africa in major education publications. The university presently has three campuses in the mainland of Lagos. Whereas two of its campuses are located at Yaba, it's college of medicine is located at Idi-Araba, Surulere. Its main campus is largely surrounded by the Lagos lagoon and has 802 acres of land. As at 2024, the University of Lagos admits around 8,500 undergraduate students annually and enrolls over 57,000 students.
Lagos State University, popularly known as LASU, is a Lagos state government-owned university established in 1983. Its main campus is situated at Ojo, with sub-campuses at Ikeja and Epe. The university was set up "for the advancement of learning and establishment of academic excellence". The university caters to over 35,000 students. The university was established during the Administration of Late Lateef Kayode Jakande. The university offers diploma, degree and post graduate programmes, including an MBA programme. LASU was ranked among the top 600 universities in the world by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings for 2020. On 23 June 2021, LASU emerged as the best young university in Nigeria having been below the age of 50 years to be added. Times Higher Education ranked the Lagos State University as the second best university in Nigeria on 2 September 2020, and was the only state university included in the rankings for 2022. The university has attracted international funding, including for the establishment of a World Bank Group Africa Centre for Excellence on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.
The Itsekiri are one of the fundamental Yoruba subgroups in Nigeria's Niger Delta area. They originate from Ile-Ife and speak a Yoruboid language and can be found in Ondo, Edo and Delta State. The Itsekiris presently transcends a population of over 1 million people and live mainly in parts of Ondo, Edo and majorly in the Warri South, Warri North and Warri South West local government districts of Delta State on the Atlantic coast of Nigeria.

With the encouragement of the federal government, the university has recently been increasing its research efforts, particularly in the fields of agriculture, medicine and conflict resolution, and expanding the university press. The university is the major higher institution of learning in the north-eastern part of the country.

Benue State University is a state-owned university in Makurdi, Benue State, Nigeria. In 2006, student enrollment was over 19,000 served by 7 faculties and 23 departments. The university offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs with a catalogue of over 58 graduate programs across 9 colleges/faculties. It is accredited by the National Universities Commission. The current Vice-chancellor of Benue State University is Professor Prof. Tor Iorapuu, who took over from Professor Msugh Moses Kembe on 3 November 2020.
Special Science Senior Secondary School is a Senior Secondary School in Makurdi, Nigeria, specialising in science education. It is a government school founded in 1995 by David Ker, later vice chancellor of Benue State University, with the aim of enhancing science education in the state. Folasade Tolulope Ogunsola OON is a Nigerian professor of medical microbiology, and the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos. She specializes in disease control, particularly HIV/AIDS. Ogunsola was provost of College of Medicine, University of Lagos and the first woman to occupy the position. She was also the Deputy Vice Chancellor of the institution between 2017 and 2021. She was acting vice chancellor of the University of Lagos for a short period in 2020 when the university was plunged into crisis as a result of the removal of the Vice Chancellor by the University Council.
Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello is a Nigerian academic. She is a professor of physiology and the 9th Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University.
Kings University is a private university in Nigeria, founded in 2015 and located in the Odeomu area of Osun State. The university was established by the Kingsway International Christian Centre, a church-owned by Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo who also happens to be the Chancellor of Kings University.
Summit University, Offa is a privately owned university founded in 2015 and located in Offa, Nigeria. It is one of the few private Universities located in Kwara, North central Nigeria. The University is owned and established by the Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, a Muslim organization established for the purpose of educational development of Muslims and Muslim society in Nigeria. The institution was established together with nine others private universities in Nigeria in 2015.

Akpofure Rim-Rukeh is a Nigerian professor of Microbial Corrosion and Environmental Studies who was the former deputy Vice Chancellor of Federal University of Petroleum Resources Effurun and currently the 4th substantive Vice Chancellor of same school.
Olayinka Ramota Karim FNIFST is a Nigerian professor of food science and the 4th substantive vice-chancellor of Fountain University Osogbo.
