Charles Augustus Zollinger (December 9,1838 in Wiesbaden,German Confederation - December 27,1893) [1] was an American Civil War hero on the Union side,and later served six terms as Mayor of Fort Wayne,Indiana. As a Colonel in the Union Army,he led troops into battle at Murfreesboro,Shiloh,Franklin and Nashville. Born in Wiesbaden in the German Confederation to German parents of Swiss heritage,he emigrated along with his family in 1848,arriving in New York before settling in Sandusky,Ohio and soon after moving to Marion,near Fort Wayne,Indiana. Zollinger,a Democrat,was first elected Mayor of Fort Wayne in 1873,and served until 1885. He was succeeded by Charles F. Muhler,a Republican. Zollinger returned for a sixth and final term in 1891,but died in office on December 27,1893,and was succeeded by Henry P. Scherer.

Located in northeastern Indiana,the city is 18 miles (29 km) west of the Ohio border and 50 miles (80 km) south of the Michigan border. Little Turtle was a Sagamore (chief) of the Miami people,who became one of the most famous Native American military leaders. Historian Wiley Sword calls him "perhaps the most capable Indian leader then in the Northwest Territory," although he later signed several treaties ceding land,which caused him to lose his leader status during the battles which became a prelude to the War of 1812. In the 1790s,Mihšihkinaahkwa led a confederation of native warriors to several major victories against U.S. forces in the Northwest Indian Wars,sometimes called "Little Turtle's War",particularly St. Clair's defeat in 1791,wherein the confederation defeated General Arthur St. Clair,who lost 900 men in the most decisive loss by the U.S. Army against Native American forces.

Henry Ware Lawton was a U.S. Army officer who served with distinction in the Civil War,the Apache Wars,and the Spanish–American War. He received the Medal of Honor for heroism during the American Civil War. He was the only U.S. general officer to be killed during the Philippine–American War and the first general officer of the United States killed in overseas action. Thomas Christopher Henry was an American businessman and politician who was the 35th Mayor of Fort Wayne,Indiana,from 2008 until his death in 2024. A member of the Democratic Party,Henry served five terms on Fort Wayne City Council from 1984 to 2004,representing the 3rd District. Afterwards,he ran for and won the Democratic mayoral primary in 2007,before defeating Republican Matt Kelty in the 2007 Fort Wayne mayoral election. Henry served as mayor of Fort Wayne for five terms,becoming the city's longest-serving mayor.

She previously served as a Fort Wayne City Councilwoman from the 6th District from 2020 to 2024,and previously served as a member of the Allen County Council from 2015 to 2020. A Democrat,she previously served as Treasurer of the Allen County Democratic Party,and vice-chair in 2016. On April 20,2024,she was selected by her party in a caucus to serve the remainder of the term of Tom Henry,who died on March 28,2024. Tucker is the city's first African-American Mayor,and the city's second female mayor in its history. Tucker succeeded Acting Mayor Karl Bandemer.
