Charles Alexander (13 June 1816 – 5 November 1905) was a Scottish-born merchant and political figure in Quebec. He represented Montréal-Centre in the Legislative Assembly of Quebec from 1874 to 1875 as a Liberal.
He was born in Dundee,the son of John Alexander and Murina Mudie,and was educated there. He worked for a firm that manufactured marmalade. Alexander was married Margaret Kyle in 1838. In 1840,he came to Lower Canada with his family after the company opened a branch in Montreal. In 1841,he operated a business in London,Upper Canada with a partner but,in 1842,returned to Montreal and opened a confectionery store there the following year. He expanded into manufacturing,wholesale sales and catering;Alexander also operated a dining room and ice cream parlour.
Alexander served on the municipal council for Montreal from 1865 to 1875. He helped found the Society for the Protection of Women and Children in 1869,serving as its vice-president. In the same year,he was co-founder and president for the Protestant Institution for Deaf-Mutes and for the Blind. In 1870,Alexander helped found the Boys' Home of Montreal,also serving as its president. He also was president of the Canadian Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Montreal. Alexander was a director for the Sun Mutual Life Insurance Company of Montreal,the Montreal Loan and Mortgage Company and the Mount Royal Cemetery Company.
Alexander was elected to the Quebec assembly in an 1874 by-election held after Luther Hamilton Holton resigned his seat. He was defeated by Alexander Walker Ogilvie when he ran for reelection in 1875. Alexander was married a second time to Mary Ann Patton in 1884. He died in Montreal at the age of 89 after falling from a second story window in his home. Alexander was buried in the Mount Royal Cemetery. [1]

Temple Emanu-El Cemetery,a Reform Judaism burial ground,is within the Mount Royal grounds. The burial ground shares the mountain with the much larger adjacent Roman Catholic cemetery,Notre Dame des Neiges Cemetery,and the Shaar Hashomayim Cemetery,an Ashkenazi Jewish cemetery. Mount Royal Cemetery is bordered on the southeast by Mount Royal Park,on the west by Notre-Dame-des-Neiges Cemetery,and on the north by Shaar Hashomayim Cemetery.

Smith between May 1886 and August 1897,was a Scottish-born Canadian businessman who became one of the British Empire's foremost builders and philanthropists. He became commissioner,governor and principal shareholder of the Hudson's Bay Company. He was president of the Bank of Montreal and with his first cousin,George Stephen,co-founded the Canadian Pacific Railway. He was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba and afterwards represented Montreal in the House of Commons of Canada. He was Canadian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom from 1896 to 1914. He was chairman of Burmah Oil and the Anglo-Persian Oil Company. He was chancellor of McGill University (1889–1914) and the University of Aberdeen.
John Redpath was a Scots-Quebecer businessman and philanthropist who helped pioneer the industrial movement that made Montreal,Quebec,the largest and most prosperous city in Canada.

He was a partner in Canada's largest wholesale hardware house of Frothingham &Workman,and President of Montreal's City Bank. W. Ogilvie &Co. of Montreal,and as pioneers and believers in the success of the Canadian West. Their company expanded to become the largest flour milling company in the British Empire.

The Hon. Matthew Hamilton Gault M.P.,J.P. was an Irish-Canadian financier and politician. In 1865,he founded Sun Life Financial in Montreal,Canada East. He was elected to the House of Commons of Canada in the 1878 election for the riding of Montreal West. A Conservative,he was re-elected in 1882 and served until his death in 1887. During the winter he lived with his family at Braehead in Montreal's Golden Square Mile. He was the brother of Andrew Frederick Gault and the uncle of Brigadier-General Andrew Hamilton Gault.

Andrew Robertson was a successful Scottish dry goods merchant at Montreal. He was best known as Chairman of the Montreal Harbour Commission. He purchased and donated the land on which the Erskine Presbyterian Church was built,and was president and Governor of the Montreal General Hospital. He was the first President of the Bell Telephone Company of Canada and the Commercial Travellers' Association of Canada. He was also President of the Montreal Board of Trade,the Dominion Board of Trade and the Royal Canadian Insurance Company.
