His father, Francis Ayume was a lawyer, politician and a member of Ugandan Parliament who occupied Koboko Municiaplity seat and was the speaker from 1998 to 2001 during the sixth parliament which was in session from 1996 to 2001. He served as Attorney General until his death in an auto crash in 2004. [4] Charles studied medicine and qualified to practice in 2004, same year his father died. [5]
Ayume ran in the NRM primary election against the incumbent MP and the State Minister of Finance Evelyn Anite, a strong supporter of President Yoweri Museveni. [6] During the campaign for the primary election, Ayume's supporters and the police clashed after the police attempted to stop Ayume's campaign rally in an enforcement of COVID-19 guidelines. [7] [8] His supporters accused the police of bias in favour of his opponent Anite who held campaign rally the previous day without disruption and went on to deface Anite's campaign posters. Ayume won the party's nomination with 8089 defeating Anite who polled 7321 to run in the general election. [9] He won the general election and was sworn in on 17 May 2021, one month after the day his father, who had previously occupied the seat, died 17 years earlier on 17 April 2004.
Koboko is a town in Northern Region of Uganda. It is the main municipal, administrative, and commercial centre of Koboko District. Koboko is also the hometown of former dictator Idi Amin who ruled Uganda from 1971 to 1979.

She is the former Cabinet Minister in Charge of General Duties in the Office of the Prime Minister, in the Ugandan Cabinet. She was appointed to that position on 6 June 2016. Prior to that, from 1 March 2015 until 6 June 2016, she served as Cabinet Minister for National Security. She was appointed to that position on 1 March 2015, replacing Wilson Muruli Mukasa, who was appointed Minister of Gender and Social Issues. Between 2012 and 2015, she served as the Minister of Gender and Social Issues in the Cabinet of Uganda. She was appointed to that position in 2012. She replaced Syda Bumba, who resigned from Cabinet. Mary Karoro Okurut also serves as the elected Member of Parliament for Bushenyi District Women's Constituency. In the 2020 National resistance movement NRM party flag bearer elections, Karooro lost to Annet Katusiime Mugisha who was elected Bushenyi district woman member of parliament in the 2021 Uganda presidential and parliamentary elections.
Ida Erios Nantaba is a Ugandan politician. She was the State Minister in the Uganda Ministry of Information and Communications Technology. She was appointed to that position on 6 June 2016. Prior to that, from 15 August 2012 until 6 June 2016, she was Minister of State for Lands in the Cabinet of Uganda. She was appointed to that position on 1 March 2015, replacing Ronald Kibuule, who was appointed State Minister for Water Resources. She also served as the elected Member of Parliament for Koboko Municipality, in the West Nile sub-region, in the Northern Region of Uganda, a position she occupied from 2011 until 2021. In the 2020 National Resistance Movement (NRM) primary elections, Anite lost to Dr Charles Ayume, the son of former speaker of the Ugandan Parliament, the late Francis Ayume.
