There have been various groups in Canada that have nominated candidates under the label Labour Party or Independent Labour Party,or other variations from the 1870s until the 1960s. These were usually local or provincial groups using the Labour Party or Independent Labour Party name,backed by local labour councils made up of many union locals in a particular city,or individual trade unions. There was an attempt to create a national Canadian Labour Party in the late 1910s and in the 1920s,but these were only partly successful.

The Legislative Assembly of Ontario is the legislative chamber of the Canadian province of Ontario. Its elected members are known as Members of Provincial Parliament (MPPs). Bills passed by the Legislative Assembly are given royal assent by the lieutenant governor of Ontario to become law. Together,the Legislative Assembly and Lieutenant Governor make up the unicameral Legislature of Ontario. The assembly meets at the Ontario Legislative Building at Queen's Park in the provincial capital of Toronto.
Edward Arunah Dunlop was a Canadian industrialist and politician. He served as a conservative member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario for Renfrew North three separate times - from 1903 to 1908,1911 to 1919 and 1928 to 1934. He served as provincial treasurer from 1930 to 1933.

Over time as the population increased,the territory was reduced. By the late 1950s it represented only a portion of the borough of East York,a small municipality on the edge of Toronto. In 1999 it was abolished and its remaining territory was distributed between Beaches—East York and Don Valley West ridings.
