Mandera County is the northeastern-most county in Kenya. Its capital and largest town is Mandera. The 2007–2008 Kenyan crisis was a violent political, economic, and humanitarian crisis that erupted in Kenya after former President Mwai Kibaki was declared the winner of the presidential election held on December 27, 2007. Supporters of Kibaki's main opponent in that election, Raila Odinga of the Orange Democratic Movement, alleged electoral manipulation. This position was widely confirmed by international observers, as being perpetrated by both parties in the election. Even the head of the electoral commission himself confirmed that he did not know who had won the elections despite announcing the incumbent as president.

Charles Cheruiyot Keter is a Kenyan politician. He has belonged to the United Democratic Alliance Party of Kenya (UDA) since 2022.
David Musila is a Kenyan politician. He belongs to the Wiper Democratic Movement and was elected to represent Mwingi South Constituency in the National Assembly of Kenya since the Kenyan parliamentary election of 1997. He is currently a senator representing Kitui County. Musila was a DO, DC and deputy PC between 1966 and 1979. In 1979, he was Moi's choice as PC for the troubled Central Province, a post which he retained until 1985, after which he became Director of Tourism. He retired from the civil service in 1988. He was elected as a KANU MP in 1997 and has remained in the house ever since, moving to the LDP wing of NARC in 2002, and was Deputy-Speaker in the 2003 Parliament. He was a KANU official in the 1990s and later became Deputy Chairman and then Chairman of the Liberal Democratic party (LDP).
Japhet Kareke Mbiuki is a Kenyan politician. He belongs to the Kenya African National Union and was elected to represent the Nithi Constituency in the National Assembly of Kenya since the 2007 Kenyan parliamentary election. In his first term In parliament he served as an assistant minister in the ministry of livestock and agriculture. He's credited as the brains behind the introduction of free fertiliser and seedlings to farmers. Between 2012 and 2017 he was reelected back to parliament under The National Alliance party. In the 2017 general election he was overwhelming reelected back to parliament under the Jubilee party and currently serving as chair of parliamentary Committee on National environment.
Mohamed Yusuf Haji was a Kenyan politician. He was the Minister of Defence of Kenya from 2008 to 2013, and briefly served as its acting Minister of Internal Security and Provincial Affairs in 2012. He has served in the Senate of Kenya since 2013. He died on 15 February 2021.
Erupting in June 2008, the Grand Regency Scandal concerns the sale of the Grand Regency Hotel in Downtown Nairobi, Kenya, from the Central Bank of Kenya to an unspecified group of Libyan investors called "Libya Arab African Investment Company". The sale was directed by Finance Minister Amos Kimunya, leading to passage of near-unanimous censure of Kimunya by the Kenyan Parliament on 1 July 2008. On 8 July 2008 Kimunya submitted his resignation, and called for an investigation to clear his name.
Karachuonyo Constituency is an electoral constituency in Kenya. It is one of eight constituencies in Homa Bay County. The current member of parliament is Hon. Andrew Adipo Okuome. Karachuonyo constituency is in history for having its first Member of parliament to be elected as an independent candidate in 1963, Hon. Elijah Omollo Agar.
The Constitution of Kenya is the supreme law of the Republic of Kenya. There have been three significant versions of the constitution, with the most recent redraft being enabled in 2010. The 2010 edition replaced the 1963 independence constitution. The constitution was presented to the Attorney General of Kenya on 7 April 2010, officially published on 6 May 2010, and was subjected to a referendum on 4 August 2010. The new Constitution was approved by 67% of Kenyan voters. The constitution was promulgated on 27 August 2010.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is an independent regulatory agency that was founded in 2011 by the Constitution of Kenya. The Commission is responsible for conducting or supervising referenda and elections to any elective body or office established by the Constitution, and any other elections as prescribed by an Act of Parliament. It was created in a provision of the 2010 constitution and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Act. Its mandate includes "the continuous registration of voters and revision of the voter's roll, the delimitation of constituencies and wards, the regulation of political parties process, the settlement of electoral disputes, the registration of candidates for elections, voter education, the facilitation of the observation, monitoring and evaluation of elections, the regulation of money spent by a candidate or party in respect of any election, the development of a code of conduct for candidates and parties, [and] the monitoring of compliance with legislation on nomination of candidates by parties."
