Charles Knight (nicknamed "Tankboy") (born 1967) is a New Zealand filmmaker.
In his late teens, Knight left New Zealand and moved to London, where he started work in the film and television industry. In his filmmaking career, Knight worked as a stunt driver, armorer, pyro-technician, editor, post supervisor, producer and writer.
Over the last 10 years, Knight has worked primarily as a producer for US studios, namely Starz Entertainment and Disney. [1] [2]
He developed a keen interest in action drama during his time working with Koichi Sakamoto on the Disney series Power Rangers . [3]
More recently, Knight has been co-producing with filmmakers Rob Tapert and Sam Raimi and is a member of the PGA (Producers Guild of America). [2] [4]
Knight is a military vehicle enthusiast, a gun collector and pyrotechnic specialist. [2]
In October 2009, Knight was involved in an incident involving one of his military vehicles. While taking a tank for a spin, a friend accidentally got injured when the tanks turret turned and squashed her, breaking four of her ribs. [6]
In January 2011, Knight lead a team for his first try at the CannonBall Run car rally in Auckland, New Zealand. His team, "Team Tankboy" took third place. The vehicle they entered into the rally was an ex-US Army Humvee, making it the first time a Humvee had been used on the CannonBall Run. [7] [8]
Black Hawk Down is a 2001 war film directed and produced by Ridley Scott, and co-produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, from a screenplay by Ken Nolan. It is based on the 1999 non-fiction book of the same name by journalist Mark Bowden, about the U.S. military's 1993 raid in Mogadishu. The film features a large ensemble cast, including Josh Hartnett, Ewan McGregor, Eric Bana, Tom Sizemore, William Fichtner, Jason Isaacs, Sam Shepard, Jeremy Piven and Tom Hardy in his first film role. Orlando Bloom, Ty Burrell, and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau also have minor roles.
Power Rangers is an American entertainment and merchandising franchise built around a live-action superhero television series, based on the Japanese tokusatsu franchise Super Sentai. Produced first by Saban Entertainment, second by BVS Entertainment, later by Saban Brands, and today by SCG Power Rangers LLC and its parent company, Hasbro, the Power Rangers television series takes much of its footage from the Super Sentai television series, produced by Toei Company. The first Power Rangers entry, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, debuted on August 28, 1993, and helped launch the Fox Kids programming block of the 1990s, during which it catapulted into popular culture along with a line of action figures and other toys by Bandai. Walker, Texas Ranger is an American action crime television series created by Leslie Greif and Paul Haggis. It was inspired by the film Lone Wolf McQuade, with both this series and that film starring Chuck Norris as a member of the Texas Ranger Division. The show aired on CBS in the spring of 1993, with the first season consisting of three pilot episodes. Eight full seasons followed with new episodes airing from September 25, 1993, to May 19, 2001, and reruns continuing on CBS until July 28, 2001. It has been broadcast in over 100 countries and spawned a 2005 television film entitled Trial by Fire. The film ended on a cliffhanger, which was never resolved. DVD sets of all seasons have been released. At various times since 1997, reruns of the show have aired, in syndication, on the USA Network and Action in Canada. Reruns are currently seen on CBS Action, WGN America, CMT, INSP, getTV, Pluto TV, Heroes & Icons, and Grit, 10 Bold, and being part of Network Ten in Australia. The Mogadishu Mile was a route that was taken by United States Army Rangers and Delta Force soldiers from a helicopter crash site to an appointed rally point held by the 10th Mountain Division on National Street during the Battle of Mogadishu on October 4, 1993. The U.S. soldiers involved were part of Task Force Ranger, an attempt to seize two lieutenants of warlord Mohamed Farrah Aidid. Originally they were supposed to take cover by running alongside a convoy of Humvees and armored personnel carriers, however when the convoy failed to understand that vehicles were needed for cover, they left them and the soldiers were forced to run without support and with very little ammunition.
