Charlie Morgan (born August 14, 1962, in Atlanta, Georgia) is a retired American soccer defender who played professionally in the Major Indoor Soccer League and the National Professional Soccer League. He coached in the A-League and was a two time USISL Coach of the Year .
In 1980, Morgan graduated from Southwest DeKalb High School. His junior and senior season of college, he played for the University of Clemson. [1] His senior season, Morgan was captain of the Tigers as they captured the 1984 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship. [2] In 1985, he signed with the Cleveland Force of the Major Indoor Soccer League. On June 4, 1987, the Force released Morgan. [3] He then moved to the Atlanta Attack of the American Indoor Soccer Association.
In 1990, Morgan served as an assistant with the Clemson Tigers men's soccer team. By 1993, he was coaching the Atlanta Magic in the USISL because he was the 1993–94 USISL indoor Coach of the Year. [4] Morgan received the award a second time a year later. [5] In 1995, the newly established Atlanta Ruckus hired Morgan as an assistant coach. He moved up to head coach in 1996. [6] In 1997, he moved to the Richmond Kickers as the Director of Soccer Operations. In 2004, Morgan became the head coach of the Frederica Academy boys' and girls' teams. During the eight seasons he spent as coach, Morgan led Frederica Academy girls' team to six Georgia state high school soccer championship and the boys' team to five championships. [7]
The Atlanta Silverbacks FC were an American professional soccer club based in Atlanta, Georgia. Founded in 1998 as Atlanta Ruckus, the club played in many leagues over the years before folding after the 2015 season. The team played its home games at Atlanta Silverbacks Park, a large soccer complex featuring a 5,000-seat soccer-specific stadium in Atlanta, 15 miles northeast of downtown. The team's colors were red, black, grey, and white.
DFW Tornados was an American soccer team based in Dallas, Texas, United States. Founded in 1986, the team played in the USL Premier Development League (PDL), the fourth tier of the American Soccer Pyramid, in the Mid South Division of the Southern Conference. The franchise folded at the end of the 2010 season and left the league thereafter.
The Memphis Storm was an American soccer team based in Memphis, Tennessee which existed from 1986 to 1994. They underwent several names changes including the Rogues, the Survivors, the United Express and finally the Jackals. They played in the American Indoor Soccer Association, and the Sunbelt Independent Soccer League, which later came to be known as the United States Interregional Soccer League.
Bruce Edward Murray is an American former professional soccer player who at the time of his retirement was the all-time leading scorer for the United States men's national soccer team. His standout college career led to his selection by Soccer America Magazine to its College Team of the Century. He then played professionally in both Europe and the United States, including the American Soccer League and American Professional Soccer League. Concussion syndrome forced him to retire in 1995, Murray had earned 86 caps, scoring 21 goals, including one at the 1990 FIFA World Cup. He was also a member of the U.S. national futsal team which placed third at the 1989 FIFA Futsal World Championship. Murray is the Direct of Coaching at Accelerator School DC Metro. He is a member of the National Soccer Hall of Fame.
