Charlie van Renen (23 August 1868 – 20 July 1942) was a South African international rugby union player. Born in Constantia, Cape Town, he attended Diocesan College before playing provincial rugby for Western Province. He made three appearances for South Africa, all against the British Isles, one match during the 1891 tour and two in 1896. Van Renen died in 1942, in Retreat, Cape Town, at the age of 73. [1] His brother, Bertie, also played rugby union for South Africa. [2]

Craven denied saying this and in his later career promoted coloured training facilities.

1896 British Isles tour to South Africa was a rugby union tour undertaken by the British Isles, one of the first British and Irish Lions tours. The team toured South Africa for the second time in 1896. Between 11 July and 5 September, they played 21 games, including four tests against South Africa. The British Isles XV won the Test series 3–1 and completed the 17-game provincial program unbeaten, scoring 204 points and conceding just 45 in all matches.

Thomas William "Charlie" Chignell was an England-born South African international rugby union player, he played provincial rugby for Western Province. Chignell made his only appearance for South Africa during Great Britain's 1891 tour, South Africa's first as a Test nation. He played as a forward in the 3rd Test of the three match series, at the Newlands Stadium, Cape Town, Great Britain won the game 4–0. Chignell died in 1952, in Cape Town, at the age of 86.

Ryk Arnoldus Mauritius van Schoor was a South African rugby union centre, a crash ball specialist he was known for his hard tackling. Van Schoor played club rugby for Inyazura RFC and provincial rugby for both Western Province and Rhodesia. He was capped for South Africa twelve times between 1949 and 1953 first representing the team against the 1949 touring New Zealand side. He was later selected for the 1951–52 South Africa rugby tour of Great Britain, Ireland and France. The touring team is seen as one of the greatest South African teams, winning 30 of the 31 matches, including all five internationals.
