Charlotte Schlesinger (1909-1976) was a German pianist and composer.

She was a student of Franz Schreker at the Berlin Hochschule für Musik from 1925-1930. [1] In 1935 she left the Vienna Conservatory to teach at the Ukrainian S.S.S.R. Conservatory.

Schlesinger migrated to America as a refugee [2] in 1938. She taught piano at Black Mountain College from fall 1946 through spring 1949, when she resigned along with several other faculty, including Theodore Dreier, Josef Albers, Anni Albers, and Trude Guermonprez. [3]

She went on to teach for many years at the Wilson School of Music in Yakima, Washington. [4]

Boris Berlin was a Canadian pianist, music educator, arranger, and composer of Russian birth. He is primarily remembered for his work within the field of piano pedagogy, having published an extensive amount of material in that area and teaching a large number of notable pianists. His more than 20 books on the subject of piano pedagogy sold more than 4 million copies. In 2000 he was made an Officer of the Order of Canada with the citation "Known as the teacher of teachers, he profoundly influenced musical instruction in our country. Having taught some of Canada's most illustrious musicians, he was known for his extensive contribution to pedagogical material and for his piano pieces for young performers."

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Anatol Ugorski</span> Classical pianist (1942–2023)

Anatol Ugorski was a Russian-born German classical pianist and academic teacher. He studied at the Leningrad Conservatory, and played works by controversial Western composers such as Schoenberg, Alban Berg, Olivier Messiaen and Pierre Boulez rather than the usual repertoire for Russian pianists. An incident at a concert of Boulez in 1968 made Soviet authorities doubt his political reliability, and they largely interrupted his career for more than ten years. In 1982, he became professor at the Leningrad Conservatory. When his daughter suffered antisemitic harassment in 1990, the family fled to East Berlin, where they lived in a refugee camp for several months. Irene Dische managed to arrange for him to record Beethoven's Diabelli Variations for Deutsche Grammophon in 1991, which launched a career of performing and recording. He became professor of the Hochschule für Musik Detmold, remaining in the post until 2007.

Gesine Catharina Magdalene Schröder is a German musicologist and music theorist. She taught music theory at the University of Music and Theatre Leipzig from 1992 and has taught at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna since 2012.
