Deshabandu Sanath Teran Jayasuriya, is a former Sri Lankan cricketer and captain, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest ever to play the game. A left arm opening batsman, an orthodox spinner and a dynamic fielder, Jayasuriya together with his opening partner Romesh Kaluwitharana is credited for having revolutionized one-day international cricket with his explosive batting in the mid-1990s, which initiated the hard-hitting modern-day batting strategy of all nations. He was a key member of the Sri Lankan team that won 1996 Cricket World Cup. Under his captaincy Sri Lanka become joint champions along with India in the 2002 Champions Trophy.

The Harrison Hoist, also known as The Chairlift, is a form of goaltending in netball where one defender lifts another defender, rugby union lineout-style, in order to catch the ball and prevent a goal scoring opportunity. It was named after Anna Harrison who completed the move successfully on 20 May 2012 while playing for Northern Mystics in a 2012 ANZ Championship Round 8 match against Melbourne Vixens. According to Netball Australia, Christine Stanton also performed the move during the 1970s. Singapore performed a similar move, known as the Lion Dance Lift, during a 2011 World Netball Championships match against Sri Lanka.

Mellony Wijesinghe was a Sri Lankan netball player who played in the position of goal shooter in international netball tournaments. She died on 20 October 2019 from suspected leukaemia. She was treated by Dr Eliyantha White in July 2019 for a shoulder injury after which she developed loss of red blood cells, however tests conducted in India and South Africa have not revealed any trace of leukaemia.
