Cherif Traorè (born 10 April 1994) is a Guinea-born Italian rugby union footballer. His usual position is as a prop, and he currently plays for Rangers Vicenza in Italian Serie A Elite. [1]
Traorè was born in Kindia, Guinea. He has two brothers and a sister. His brothers Mohamed Lamine and Abdoulaye both play association football professionally. [2] When Traorè was young, his father immigrated to Italy before bringing his family over to join him. Traorè was seven years old when he arrived in Italy. His father had emigrated to Europe earlier and "because he missed his wife and children so much, he decided to move us all over". Traorè arrived speaking French but had no knowledge of Italian or the country. He made friends at school who invited him to their homes and helped him adjust. [2]
After passing through the Viadana youth academies, he was then selected for the F.I.R. Academy.
In 2013 he was hired by I Cavalieri Prato for whom he made his debut in the Italian championship of Excellence and in the European Challenge Cup. After a season in Prato he returned to Viadana where he played in the 2014-2015 championship.
In 2015 Traorè was signed by Benetton Rugby for whom he made his debut in the Pro12 and in the European cup.
After a season in which he made 9 appearances in the Pro12 and Champions Cup, in December 2016 he was hindered by a shoulder injury that forced him to miss most of the season. Returning from injury after an operation, in the 2017-2018 season he increased his playing time while almost always starting from the bench as a frontline change, scoring his first try in the Pro14 victory against the Southern Kings. In the following season, following his debut in the senior national team and though limited by an injury, he confirmed himself as a first team regular. He played for Benetton in the United Rugby Championship until 2022−23 season. [3] [4] For 2023–24 season, he signed for Stade Montois in French Pro D2. [5]
Traorè was part of the Italy national under-20 rugby union team from 2012 to 2014. At the age of 19, the Parma player joined the Under 20s and participated in the Six Nations tournament in 2013 and 2014 and was called up for the editions of the world championship in the same years.
He has also been part of the Italy national team squad since 2018. [6] After participating in training for the 2018 Six Nations Championship, Traorè was called up by technical commissioner Conor O'Shea for the summer tour of the Italy national team in Japan where he made his international debut, replacing Andrea Lovotti in the victory against Japan on June 16 in Kobe. He then also played in all the autumn test matches.
On the 14 October 2021, he was selected by Alessandro Troncon to be part of an Italy A 28-man squad for the 2021 end-of-year rugby union internationals. [7]
The Top10, known as the Peroni Top10 for sponsorship reasons, and formerly Top 12, is Italy's top level professional men's rugby union competition. The Top 10 is run by Federazione Italiana Rugby (FIR) and is contested by 10 teams as of the 2019–2020 season, following the Italian federation's decision to name Peroni as the official partner of the Top10 competition.
Benetton Rugby, also known as Benetton Treviso, is an Italian professional rugby union team based in Treviso, Veneto competing in the United Rugby Championship, the European Rugby Challenge Cup and European Champions Cup. Treviso rugby team was founded in 1932 and has won 15 Italian national championships. The team has been owned by the Benetton clothing company since 1979. Treviso have competed in the United Rugby Championship since 2010, and have previously competed in the Italian domestic championship.
Rugby Viadana 1970 is an Italian rugby union club based in Viadana. The club was established in 1970, and has since won the Italian championship in 2002, and the Coppa Italia three times. They also compete in European rugby competitions and were runners-up in the European Shield in 2004. Viadana plays in yellow and black. The club did not compete professionally between 2010 and 2012 as they focused their efforts on Aironi. Aironi was based at Viadana's home ground and represented a number of regional teams in the multi-national Celtic League. The FIR withdrew Aironi's licence to play at the end of the 2012, so Viadana reformed as a professional team will play in Italy's top division, the National championship of Excellence, from the 2012–13 season and currently in the Top12.
Andrea Masi is a retired Italian rugby union footballer. His usual position was in the centres but he has also played at fly-half and at full-back. His last club before retirement was the English Premiership club Wasps. In a 16-year international career lasting from 1999 to 2015, Masi won 95 caps for the Italy national team, and was a part of their squad at four World Cups in 2003, 2007, 2011 and 2015.
Zebre Parma are an Italian professional rugby union team competing in the United Rugby Championship and EPCR competitions from the 2012–13 season. They are based in Parma (Emilia-Romagna), Italy. They are operated by the Italian Rugby Federation (FIR) and replaced Aironi in the Pro12.

Montanna Wilson Ioane is an Australian-born Italian professional rugby union player who primarily plays wing for Lyon in the Top 14. He has also represented Italy at international level, having made his test debut against Wales during the Autumn Nations Cup. Ioane has previously played for clubs such as Stade Français, Tasman, Bay of Plenty, and Benetton.
