Chetan Joshi is a noted flautist in the Hindustani classical music tradition. He was born in Jharia and brought up at Noamundi and Bokaro Steel City. He was trained under Late Acharya Jagadish (Bokaro), Late Pandit Bholanath Prasanna (Allahabad), Late Pandit Raghunath Seth (Mumbai) [1] and Pandit Ajoy Chakravorty (Kolkata). [2]

Early life

He was born in Jharia of Dhanbad district in Bihar (now Jharkhand). His father Bhupendra Joshi was a trader of tea. He completed his matriculation from Ramchndra High School and college from Allahabad Degree College, Prayagraj. He completed his graduation from Bokaro College. [3] [4]

Career

He started playing flute as a music teacher in 1987 in Guru Gobind Singh School. Then he was a music teacher at Delhi Public School from 1988 to 2012. From 2012, he played flute in different shows from Noida. [3] [4]

Performances

As one of the leading classical instrumentalists from Delhi, Chetan Joshi has performed in various concerts over the last thirty years.[ citation needed ]

He gave his performance along with a Japanese artist for a programme named Venu Naad (sound of flute) in a series of Jugalbandi concerts organised in the first and second week of December 2004 in places like Hazaribagh, Dhanbad, Bokaro, Ranchi, Munger and Kolkata. He has also performed Jugalbandi with Santoor, Violin, Guitar, Sitar, Sarod and Flute artists from various parts of the country.

His other performances include one at XLRI at Jamshedpur in 2006, at Rabindra Bhawan, Guwahati in 2008 and at IIM Ranchi in 2012. [5] [6]

In September 2016 Chetan Joshi performed in the 7th edition of Rasrang World Flute Festival, a five-day long international event held in New Delhi, in which artists from several countries like Italy, Slovakia and Afghanistan participated and where he was able to perform alongside other leading flautists of India like Hariprasad Chaurasia and Ronu Majumdar. The festival was especially linked with one of UN Sustainable Development Goals and it aimed to propagate world peace. [7] [8]

He performed in a special programme organised by Sanskar Bharti at Punjab Kala Bhawan on 8 April 2017. [9]

He also performed in a special program organised by Skoolz with the celebrity show host Mrs. NIDHI KUMAR on Sunday, 04 Dec 2022. [10]

Awards

He has been awarded with Rajakiya Sanskritik Samman (State honor) by the Government of Jharkhand. He has also been awarded Sur Mani, Bismillah Samman, Sangeet Kala Gaurav Award, Kala Ratna Sammaan, Sangam Sammaan and many other awards and accolades. [11] He was awarded Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for the year 2019. [3] [4]

Grand Chord is part of the Howrah–Gaya–Delhi line and Howrah–Prayagraj–Mumbai line. It acts as a link between Sitarampur, (Asansol), and Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyay Junction,, previously known as Mughalsarai Junction, and covers a stretch of 450.7 km (280.1 mi). The Coal India Corridor line that branches off from Dhanbad Junction and rejoins the Grand Chord at Son Nagar Junction is another major coal loading hub. It is a fully electrified, quadruple line section from Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyay to Son Nagar and double line section from Son Nagar to Sitarampur. There are plans to triple the lines from Son Nagar to Dhanbad to accommodate the increasing traffic.. The entire line lies under the jurisdiction of three divisions, Mughalsarai railway division, Dhanbad railway division and Asansol railway division. The Grand chord section is the lifeline of the country, 2nd busiest railway section of India after Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh to Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyay Junction, Uttar Pradesh Main Line section, on which coal, steel and other important goods are moved from Eastern section to Western and Northern sections of the country. In the down direction, the traffic consists of mostly food grains, fertilizers and empty wagons for coal loading in the Jharkhand and West Bengal coal fields. Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyay Junction is a transit division and the main objective is to maintain mobility of high density traffic. The present capacity of the Grand Chord is being optimally utilized. Traversing through Chota Nagpur Plateau of Jharkhand as well as parts of the fertile Gangetic plains of Bihar, the Grand Chord covers a stretch of 450.7 km (280.1 mi). The Grand Chord is renowned for its remarkable controlling of passenger traffic, despite being burdened with freight traffic.

He is the recipient of Sangeet Natak Akademi Amrit Award (2022), Lok Kala Ratna Award (2014) and Praful Samman (2019) for his contribution in folk music.
