CHIditarod is a Chicago-based [1] shopping cart-race and food drive. [2] [3] [4] [5] Attendees typically dress in costume. [6] It is managed by the 501(c)(3) non-profit CHIditarod Foundation. [7] The name is a play on words combining Chicago and Iditarod, a dogsled race. CHIditarod is not related to the Iditarod in any way.

The Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race is an annual long-distance sled dog race run in early March from Anchorage to Nome, entirely within the US state of Alaska. Mushers and a team of 14 dogs, of which at least 5 must be on the towline at the finish line, cover the distance in 8–15 days or more. The Iditarod began in 1973 as an event to test the best sled dog mushers and teams but evolved into today's highly competitive race.

Susan Butcher

Susan Howlet Butcher was an American dog musher, noteworthy as the second woman to win the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race in 1986, the second four-time winner in 1990, and the first to win four out of five sequential years. She is commemorated in Alaska by the Susan Butcher Day.

Jeff King (mushing)

King moved to Alaska in 1975 and began racing in 1976. A successful sled dog racer, he won the Yukon Quest in 1989, and the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race in 1993, 1996, 1998, and most recently, in the 2006 Iditarod. Four other mushers have won the Iditarod four times and only two, Dallas Seavey and Rick Swenson have won it more often. King was 50 years old when he won the 2006 Iditarod, which made him the oldest musher to win the event, a distinction he held until 2017 when Mitch Seavey won at age 57. As of 2015, he has competed in 26 Iditarods. His "Idita-Rider" for the 2005 Iditarod was a child sponsored by the Make-a-Wish Foundation. King has also won many other sled dog races. He continues to race and has a kennel near the entrance of Denali National Park.

Emmitt Peters Sr. the "Yukon Fox", was an Alaskan American hunter, fisher, trapper, and dog musher. The last rookie to win the 1,049 mile Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race, he and his lead dogs Nugget and Digger shattered the previous speed record by almost six days.

Idiotarod

The Idiotarod is a shopping cart race in which teams of five or more "idiots" with a grocery store shopping cart run through the streets of a major metropolitan area. The carts are usually themed and feature people in costumes. The races are fun competitions where sabotage, costume, and presentation, and other efforts are rewarded; some cities offer a "Best in Show" prize. Sabotage, such as tripping competitors, throwing marbles or large obstacles in their paths, and the spreading of misinformation such as false route information, were common in the early years. A push for "leave no trace" actions has been promoted recently.

Northbrook Court is a shopping mall in Northbrook, Illinois with a collection of stores serving the North Shore suburbs of Chicago. Located on 130 acres (0.53 km2) of land, its anchor stores are Shoppers Find and Neiman Marcus. This mall also features a 14-screen AMC Theatres on the south side of the mall. The 2019 Iditarod is the 47th iteration of the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race held in Alaska. The race began on March 2, 2019, in Anchorage, Alaska, and ended on March 18, 2019 in Nome, Alaska.

The 2021 Iditarod is the 49th iteration of the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race in Alaska. The race began on Sunday, March 7, 2021, in Anchorage, Alaska. 46 mushers participated in the race including past winners and noted racers Aily Zirkle, Martin Buser, Dallas Seavey, Peter Kaiser, Joar Leifseth Ulsom, and Nicolas Petit. On February 5, 2021, the race officials announced they had canceled the ceremonial start in Anchorage, which usually is an 11 mile route through the city. Rather than restart at the usual checkpoint of Willow Lake, the 2021 race will restart at Deshka Landing in the Susitna Valley because of COVID-19 restrictions. The 2021 Iditarod was won by Dallas Seavey on March 15, Aaron Burmeister and Brent Sass took second and third position. This is Seavey's fifth win of the race.
