Czarina Maria "China" D. Capili-Jocson, [2] married name Cojuangco, is a Filipina crisis management strategist [3] and former journalist who served as the Assistant to the Presidential Spokesperson [4] (Deputy to the Presidential Spokesperson) in the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte. [5] In April 2018, she was appointed by the Special Envoy of the Philippines to the United States as its Deputy to the Ambassador, then eventually the office's official representative.[ citation needed ]

She was a news presenter for GMA News and Public Affairs (2003–2006) and later on, spearheaded the lifestyle content of GMA Online (2010–2015). [6]

China Cojuangco is currently involved in pursuing her late husband's philantrophic legacy, through the Little Blue Chair initiative. [7]

Family and background

She is the granddaughter of Atty. Tomas P. Matic who was Government Corporate Counsel [8] during President Diosdado Macapagal’s administration. She is also kin to former Bureau of Internal Revenue Director, Umiral P. Matic, who was controversially kidnapped and killed [9] while serving then Vice President Joseph Estrada.

She is the sole successor to her maternal grandmother Doña Marcela Jocson of Pampanga and the daughter of Robert Capili y Pacion Rodriguez (deceased) a trustee at Zuellig Pharma Corporation.

She and Tarlac 1st district representative Carlos "Charlie" Cojuangco were married on April 7, 2021. [3] She has a daughter from a previous relationship. [10]

He began his political career in Paniqui, Tarlac where he served as councilor, vice mayor, and then mayor. José "Pepe" Chichioco Cojuangco Sr., KSS was a Filipino politician who served as Representative of the 1st District of Tarlac in the Philippines from 1934 to 1946. Cojuangco is one of the patriarchs of the Cojuangco clan. He was the father and grandfather of future Philippine presidents Corazon Aquino and Benigno Aquino III, respectively. Hacienda Luisita is a 6,453-hectare sugar plantation located in the province of Tarlac, Philippines. The hacienda spans 11 barangays in three towns of Tarlac province. Most of the original farmworkers reside in 10 villages – Barangays Balete, Cutcut, Lourdes, Mapalacsiao, Asturias, and Bantog in Tarlac City; Barangay Motrico in La Paz town; and Barangays Parang, Mabilog and Pando in Concepcion town. The original estate includes the Central Azucarera de Tarlac (CAT) sugar mill and a golf course. The eleventh village is Barangay Central in Tarlac City which houses the CAT sugar mill, the St. Martin de Porres Hospital and the Our Lady of Lourdes Church. The Cojuangco clan is a prominent Filipino family descended from Co Yu Hwan, who migrated to the Philippines in 1861 from Hongjian Village, Jiaomei Township, Zhangzhou, Fujian. He was commonly called Khoân ko or Khó͘ Khoân ko / Khó͘ Hoân ko among Hokkien Chinese Filipinos, and the latter was Hispanicized as Cojuangco. He adopted the Christian name José Cojuangco in 1865 when he moved to Bulacan.
