Chogoria is a town located in Mwimbi Division of Tharaka-Nithi County of Kenya. It is located roughly 97 miles (about 186 km) from Nairobi. It is connected to the rest of the country by an all-weather, tarmacked road, the Meru-Nairobi highway. The closest town to Chogoria is Chuka. Other surrounding towns are Igoji, Nkubu, Meru and Embu. The town has an urban population of 28,415 and a rural population of 3,208. [1]
Chogoria Hospital, founded by Rev. Dr. Clive Irvine in 1922, is a primary healthcare resource for over 350,000 people in the Meru district. [2] It provides maternal and infant care, encompasses a wide network of outpatient clinics, and coordinates youth education programs. [3]
The Clive Irvine College of Health Sciences provides primarily nursing education to over 300 students annually. [4]

Runyenjes is the second largest town in Embu County, Kenya. Karithi Ruth Wanjiru Nduati is a Kenyan Pediatrician and Epidemiologist who also teaches at the University of Nairobi College of Health Sciences. She is also currently leading an interdisciplinary program through the University of Nairobi School of Medicine to educate physician-researchers to best implement HIV treatment and prevention methods backed by research. The program was funded by the Fogarty Training Grant which is a part of the PEPFAR funds the country of Kenya received.
Archibald Clive Irvine was a Scottish medical missionary to Kenya. He was an early proponent to stopping female circumcision. He worked primarily in Chogoria, Kenya, where he introduced coffee cultivation. He was the founder of the PCEA Chogoria Hospital and is the namesake of the Clive Irvine College of Health Sciences on the slopes of Mount Kenya. Clive also started the Chogoria Girls and Boys schools.
