Christopher Appleton (born June 14, 1983) is a British [1] hairdresser, known for working with celebrities [2] [3] [4] such as Katy Perry, Ariana Grande, [5] [6] Jennifer Lopez, [7] [8] Kim Kardashian, [9] [10] and many others. [11] His work spans from editorial to television and red carpet appearances. [12] [13]

Early life

Appleton was born and raised in Leicester, England. [14] He grew up in Leicester with his mother and shared his childhood with 4 siblings. Appleton had a passion for hair-styling from a very young age and his first-ever client at the age of eight was his mother. He got his first job at a salon when he was 13 years old. [15] [16]

Career

At the start of his career Appleton worked at some salons, but he got his break in 2010 when he contested and won “Young Talent of the Year” in a British hairdressing show, Hairdresser of the Year. [17] He eventually moved to Los Angeles, where Appleton immediately become known for hair-styling celebrities. His attention to detail and creative vision has made him one of the most sought-after hairstylists. His clients include Rita Ora, [18] and Katy Perry [19] [20] to name a few. [21]

‘Glass Hair’ has become Appleton's signature hair-impression[ clarification needed ]. [22] He has taken the popularity of the high pony[ clarification needed ] to new heights. Appleton has done styling for TV shows such as The X Factor, Wendy: The Wendy Williams Show, The Doctors, and House of Style, among many others. He is an ambassador of Color WOW [24] and relies on Olaplex for his color transformations and his Mason Pearson brush to polish hair. He uses Glam Seamless clip-in extensions on most clients along with a Dyson blow dryer. [25]

Appleton's work has been on covers of magazines including Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Vanity Fair, Marie Claire, Grazia, L’Officiel Paris, and Singapore. He has also worked with fashion houses on their seasonal shows, including Chanel, Vivienne Westwood, Fendi, Moschino, Dolce & Gabbana, Valentino, Saint Laurent, Tom Ford, and Burberry. [26]

Appleton won the 2010 Young Talent of the Year in a London TV Show, Hairdresser of the Year. [27] He is also the winner of the Lori McCoy-Bell Hairstyling Award. [28] Appleton was named as the Hair Star by Vogue UK. [29] He also won "2019 Hair Influencer of the Year" Award. [30]

Personal life

Appleton has two children, Kitty Blu and Billy. [31] He has tattoos of his children's names and date of birth on both his wrists. Appleton currently lives in the Hollywood Hills. [32]

The 1950s were a decade known for experimentation with new styles and culture. Following World War II and the austerity years of the post-war period, the 1950s were a time of comparative prosperity, which influenced fashion and the concept of glamour. Hairstylists invented new hairstyles for wealthy patrons. Influential hairstylists of the period include Sydney Guilaroff, Alexandre of Paris and Raymond Bessone, who took French hair fashion to Hollywood, New York and London, popularising the pickle cut, the pixie cut and bouffant hairstyles.

James Albert Markham is an American hair stylist and serial entrepreneur, who has founded four hair care companies– Markham Products, ABBA Pure and Natural, PureOlogy Serious Colour Care, and, most recently, ColorProof Color Care Authority. He was also celebrity stylist Jay Sebring's protege and successor of Sebring International after Sebring was murdered by the Manson Family. Markham is known for advancing the Sebring cutting technique and introduced a generation of men to a new way of cutting and caring for their hair in the early 1970s, which emphasizes cutting hair in the direction it grows, daily washing and conditioning, and blow-drying. By 1973 Markham had improved upon the concept and took it nationwide over the next decade, coining the technique The Markham Method.
