Chris Carlin (born September 16, 1972 in Morristown, New Jersey), is an American television and radio personality. Previously, Carlin was the co-host of Carlin & Reese on local Philadelphia sports radio station 94.1 WIP. Carlin joined the station in November 2016, after over 8 years on SportsNet New York, the New York Mets television network. He was the co-host of "CMB," with Bart Scott & Maggie Gray on WFAN in New York from 2018-19. Recently, he joined 98.7 ESPN Radio in New York, where he hosts "Carlin" daily from 7:00 - 10:00 PM.

Early life

He grew up in Chatham Township, New Jersey. [1] After graduating Oratory Preparatory School in Summit, New Jersey, he went on to major in English in college, graduating from Hobart College in 1995. He started his career at WEOS FM in Geneva, New York, broadcasting sports of his alma mater, Hobart & William Smith Colleges. He called football, men's & women's basketball, men's & women's lacrosse, soccer, and Minor League Baseball. He was the station's sports director and also hosted a sports talk show briefly.

He formerly broadcast Minor League Baseball for the Geneva (1993) & Williamsport (1994–95) Cubs – currently known as the Williamsport Crosscutters. He also called college football games for Bucknell University and did both radio studio hosting and preseason play-by-play for the New York Giants radio and television (for pre-season) broadcasts for several years. Carlin has also worked on broadcasts of men's lacrosse for the NCAA and the now-defunct NFL Europa on the NFL Network.

Career

Carlin spent the first 13 years of his professional career at WFAN in New York. [2] Beginning as an intern in 1995, he worked his way up to the position of producer for the Mike & The Mad Dog Show, co-hosted by Mike Francesa and Chris 'Mad Dog' Russo. Carlin produced the show for 6+12 years, during which time his on-air role grew with the station. He briefly hosted overnights, and served as sports anchor on the Imus in the Morning program (2005–2007) & Boomer & Carton program (2007–2008.) In addition, he hosted The Morning Warmup, a one-hour pre-show for Boomer & Carton.

While at SNY, Carlin co-hosted Loud Mouths, a sports debate program similar to that of ESPN's Pardon the Interruption, from its inception on March 24, 2008 until his departure from the network. Also, he and on-air partner Bob Ojeda co-hosted pre- and post-game telecasts for New York Mets games on SNY for five seasons, from 2009–2013. [3] He also hosted SportsNite, SNY's nightly sports recap program.

Carlin is also the play-by-play voice for Rutgers football games, and from 2008–2016 he called Rutgers Men's Basketball games. He began at Rutgers as a sideline reporter for football in 2001, and took over the play-by-play duties at Rutgers in 2004 when Tom McCarthy, the TV voice of the Philadelphia Phillies, departed Rutgers.

On December 19, 2017 Carlin replaced longtime sports radio host, Mike Francesa, on the afternoon drive on WFAN 660 in New York City. He was joined with Maggie Gray and Bart Scott to form the afternoon team. Carlin and Scott began hosting on December 18, 2017, the Monday after Francesa's last show. On September 11, 2019 Carlin announced that he would be leaving WFAN after his show that day. On December 17, 2019, Carlin announced he would be joining 98.7 ESPN New York to host "Carlin at Night," weekdays from 7:00-10:00 PM. [4]

Personal life

Carlin is married to Sheryl Spain, the Director of Career Development and Programs at the Rutgers Leadership Academy, part of the Rutgers University Athletic Department. They reside in New Jersey.

WRSU-FM Radio station in New Brunswick, New Jersey

WRSU is a non-commercial college radio station serving the greater Central New Jersey area, broadcasting from the campus of Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. It is a student and faculty-run radio station with Rutgers faculty member Mike Pavlichko serving as its Broadcast Administrator. WRSU broadcasts on FM and streams all of its programming online.

WFAN is a radio station licensed to New York City and is owned and operated by Audacy, Inc. WFAN's studios are located in the combined Audacy facility in the Hudson Square neighborhood of lower Manhattan and its transmitter is located on High Island in the Bronx. Its 50,000-watt clear channel signal can be heard at night throughout much of the eastern United States and Canada. WFAN is also heard on WFAN-FM.

Mike Francesa

Michael Patrick Francesa is an American sports radio talk show host. Together with Chris Russo, he launched Mike and the Mad Dog in 1989 on WFAN in New York City, which ran until 2008 and is one of the most successful sports-talk radio programs in American history.

Mike and the Mad Dog was an American radio show hosted by Mike Francesa and Christopher "Mad Dog" Russo, originally aired in afternoons on WFAN in New York City from September 1989 to August 2008. The show featured Francesa and Russo talking about sports and taking phone calls from listeners. From 2002 the show was simulcast on television on the YES Network. On the radio, the show was simulcast beginning 2007 on WQYK in Tampa, Florida and from 2004 until 2007 on WROW in Albany, New York.

SportsNet New York

SportsNet New York (SNY) is an American regional sports network owned by Sterling Entertainment Enterprises, LLC, itself a joint venture between the Fred Wilpon Sterling Equities, Charter Communications through its acquisition of Time Warner Cable in May 2016 and Comcast, through its NBC Sports Group subsidiary. The channel primarily broadcasts games and related programming involving the Mets, but also carries supplementary coverage of the Mets and the New York Jets as well as college sports events.

John A. Minko is an American sports radio and television personality. He was a "20/20 sports anchor" on radio station WFAN in New York City and had worked there from its inception in 1987 until 2020. Nicknamed "Coach" by his coworkers, Minko provides listeners with up-to-the-minute sports news, Sundays through Thursdays between the hours of 10am and 5pm (Monday-Thursday) and 6am and 12pm (Sunday). He has also, at times, been called the "Dean of Updates", a moniker in recognition of his seniority. On April 2nd, 2020, Minko had said that April 3rd was his last day on WFAN.

Evan Roberts is an American sports radio personality. He currently co-hosts the Carton and Roberts radio show, along with Craig Carton, weekdays from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. ET on the New York radio stations WFAN-AM and WFAN-FM.

Boomer and Gio is a morning drive sports radio program on WFAN-AM and WFAN-FM in New York City. It is hosted by former National Football League player Boomer Esiason and radio personality Gregg Giannotti.

Mike's On: Francesa on the FAN was a sports radio talk show airing on New York City station WFAN, hosted by Mike Francesa. The show debuted on September 3, 2008, as the successor to Francesa's previous program, Mike and the Mad Dog, which was broadcast from 1989–2008 and made Francesa and his partner Chris Russo the first nationally known team in sports radio. When simulcast on television, Mike's On is broadcast under the title The Mike Francesa Show; it was simulcast on the YES Network from its inception until January 31, 2014. On March 24, 2014, Francesa signed an agreement to occasionally simulcast a portion of the show on Fox Sports 1 and Fox Sports 2. The arrangement with Fox Sports ended September 11, 2015 with Mike taking the blame for the project not succeeding. Francesa announced his retirement and the final show aired on December 15, 2017.

The New York Mets Radio Network, referred to on air as the WCBS Mets Radio Network, was a radio network owned by Entercom that broadcast New York Mets baseball games. It consisted of 14 stations in the states of Connecticut, Florida, New Jersey, and New York. A Spanish-language broadcast airs separately from the English-language network.

Joe & Evan was a sports talk radio show hosted by Joe Benigno and Evan Roberts from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. ET on New York radio stations WFAN-AM and WFAN-FM. Originally the midday hosts, Joe & Evan were promoted to "afternoon drive" replacing longtime host Mike Francesa who semi-retired in December 2019.

The New York Sports radio WFAN, first broadcast on July 1, 1987 at 1050AM replacing WHN. WFAN was the first all sports station in the United States. The station's current frequency, 660AM. was formerly known as WNBC and first transmitted on March 2, 1922. WFAN moved to 660AM at 5:30PM Eastern Time on October 7, 1988 when WNBC signed off for the last time.
