Chris "Dune" Pastras (born July 14, 1972) is an artist, skateboarder, entrepreneur, skate company owner, and television host. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8]

Early life

Pastras grew up in New Jersey, raised with and mentored by Rodney Smith. [9] Pastras got his first skateboard in 1979 at age 7, a gift from Rodney. [10] Pastras is mixed-race, half-Greek and half-African-American. [10] Pastras was raised by two black women. [10]

Skateboarding career

Pastras' first sponsor was SHUT skateboards in his early teens. [10] In 1990, Pastras left SHUT to ride for World Industries, appearing in Rubbish Heap - 1989 and Two World Industries Men - 1990. After World Industries, Pastras rode for Blue skateboards. In 1992, Pastras and Jason Lee founded STEREO Skateboard. [11] [12] [9] Pastras starred in the STEREO skate video Tincan Folklore. [13]

Pastras graced the cover of Slap magazine in May 1992. [10] In 1993, Pastras graced the cover of Transworld Skateboarding. [10]

Stereo skateboards

Stereo used jazz imagery, combined with Pastras' artwork, and super-8 skate footage giving Stereo a unique vibe. [9]

Acting / Television host

In 2019, Pastras plays a host in the Jason Lee directed music video for E.B. The Younger titled: When The Time Comes. [14]

Gonzales pioneering influence on skateboarding has caused him to be known as the godfather of modern street skateboarding and was named the "Most Influential Skateboarder of All Time" by Transworld Skateboarding magazine in December 2011.

Transworld Skateboarding (TWS) is an international magazine on skateboarding that was based in Carlsbad, California, United States. The publication also ran an accompanying website and video production company. In February 2019, the publishers of Transworld magazine, The Enthusiast Network, were purchased by American Media, Inc. In March 2019, the print edition of Transworld magazine was discontinued. It continues as a digital brand.

Alien Workshop (AWS) is an independent American skateboarding company that was founded in 1990 by Chris Carter, Mike Hill, and Neil Blender in Dayton, Ohio. Following periods under the ownership of the Burton snowboard company and original team rider Rob Dyrdek in 2012, the company was acquired by Pacific Vector Holdings in October 2013. Alien Workshop produced skateboard decks, wheels, apparel, and other skateboard accessories prior to its closure in May 2014. In 2015, Alien Workshop was revived with an all-amateur team and distribution through Tum Yeto. They released a series of new skate decks and Bunker Down, the brand's sixth video. As of 2016, Alien Workshop, led by Mike Hill phased out working with Tum-Yeto and moved all operations back to the Mound Laboratories in Miamisburg, Ohio. After a tumultuous ownership history they have returned to operations as an independent company.
