Chris Snook (born 14 January 2000) is a British track and field athlete. In 2023, he became British national champion in the 5000m race walk. [1]

Career

Snook races for Aldershot, Farnham and District Athletics Club. [2] In February 2022, Snook won the first ever England Athletics Winter Race Walking Championships titles over 10,000m in Leeds. [3]

In March 2023, Snook was selected to represent England at the Korzeniowski Warsaw Race Walking Cup. [4]

On 10 June 2023, he won the senior titles at the British Grand Prix of Race Walking over 20,000 metres, held at Leeds Beckett Athletics Centre. [5] [6]

Snook won the UK Athletics Championships men's 5000 metres race walk title, in Manchester, in July 2023. [7]

Personal life

He is the son of former international race walker Verity Snook-Larby. [7]

Sifan Hassan is an Ethiopian-born Dutch middle- and long-distance runner. She is most recognized for her versatility in running championship and world leading performances in widely disparate distances. She completed an unprecedented triple at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, winning gold medals in both the 5000 metres and 10,000 metres and a bronze medal for the 1500 metres. Hassan is the only athlete in Olympic history to win medals across a middle-distance event and both long-distance races in a single Games. She is only the second woman to complete an Olympic distance double.

The 5000 metres race walk is a racewalking event. The event is competed as a track race and was part of the athletics programme for men at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Athletics until 1993. It is also an event in the World Masters Athletics Championships, and is a World record event.

Dane Alex Bird-Smith is an Australian racewalking athlete. He competes in the 20 kilometres race walk, and has a best of 1:19:28 hours for the distance, set in 2017. He competed at the 2016 Rio Olympics, where he was the bronze medallist. Bird-Smith represented Australia at the World Championships in Athletics three times, and has appeared four times at the IAAF World Race Walking Team Championships/Cup.

In 2016, the foremost athletics events will be staged at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. The two other major global level competitions in 2016 are the World Indoor Championships and World Half Marathon Championships.
