Chris Whaley

Chris Whaley (born August 7, 1954) is an American author, Southern Baptist pastor and former professional wrestler who competed in Florida using the ring name The Saint. [1] His novel The Masked Saint was turned into a movie in 2016. [2] [3] [4] He grew up in Auburndale, Florida and graduated from Auburndale High School in 1972.

Wrestling

Whaley was trained by The Great Malenko. In the 1980s Whaley wrestled professionally in Florida and the southeastern states for ten years, [5] [6] competing with The Undertaker among others. [7] His last three years he wrestled in Texas with Wild West Wrestling, WCCW and independent shows.

Pastor

Whaley graduated from Palm Beach Atlantic University. Whaley quit professional wrestling and in 1988 studied theology at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. [5] By 2000, he had become senior pastor at First Baptist Church in Longwood, Florida. Drawing on real-life experiences from both wrestling and his career as a pastor, he wrote the novel The Masked Saint which was published by Morgan James Publishing. [1] In 2013, a movie based on the book was filmed in Sault Ste. Marie. [2] The movie was released by Freestyle on January 8, 2016, in the US and on January 22, 2016, in Canada.

His initial church was Westside Baptist Church in Lake Wales, Florida. He led First Baptist Church in Beverly Hills, Florida from 1990 to 2000. His final church tenure was at First Baptist Church in Longwood, Florida from 2000 to 2013. He currently serves on staff at First Baptist Church of Orlando as the Legacy Adult Pastor.

<i>The Masked Saint</i> 2015 American biographical drama film

The Masked Saint is a 2015 Canadian biographical drama film directed by Warren P. Sonoda. It is based on the 2009 book of the same name by Chris Whaley. The film stars Brett Granstaff, Lara Jean Chorostecki, T.J. McGibbon, Diahann Carroll, Roddy Piper, and James Preston Rogers. It was produced by Cliff McDowell and released in select theaters on January 8, 2016.

Teddy Gerald Stone was a Southern Baptist evangelist and former drug addict who founded his own ministry to help addicts. To raise funds and awareness of the ministry he completed three walks across the United States and was on his fourth walk when he died. He was also on the board of trustees for Southwestern Baptist Seminary, wrote for the Baptist Press, and ran for statewide leadership roles in the church in North Carolina.

Faithful Word Baptist Church is a New Independent Fundamentalist Baptist church in Tempe, Arizona, that was founded by Steven Anderson. The church describes itself as "an old-fashioned, independent, fundamental, King James Bible-only, soul-winning Baptist church." Members of the church meet in an office space that is located inside a strip mall. Anderson established the church in December 2005 and remains its pastor.

New Independent Fundamentalist Baptist churches or officially the New Independent Fundamental Baptist Movement are an association of conservative, King James Only, independent Baptist churches. The New IFB began with Steven Anderson of Faithful Word Baptist Church in response to perceived liberalism in other independent Baptist churches. The New IFB does not consider itself to be a denomination. As of 2019, the New IFB listed 32 affiliated congregations on its website, most in the U.S. with some in Australia, Canada, the Philippines and South Africa.
