Christian Piwarz (born 23 July 1975 in Dresden) is a German politician. He served as the former state chairman of the Junge Union Sachsen und Niederschlesien. He has served as a member of the Landtag of Saxony since 2006 and held the position of Saxon State Minister for Culture in the Kretschmer I and Kretschmer II cabinets from 2017 to 2024. [1] [2]
On December 19,2024,Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer appointed Christian Piwarz as State Minister of Finance in the Third Kretschmer cabinet. [3]
Christian Piwarz has been a member of the Saxon State Parliament since 2006,succeeding the retired Uwe Albrecht. During the 4th legislative period (from his entry until 2009),he was active in the Interior Committee,the Committee for Schools and Sports,and the 1st Committee of Inquiry into Sachsen-LB.
Piwarz was chairman of the CDU parliamentary group in the 2nd Committee of Inquiry during the 4th legislative period of the Saxon State Parliament. In the 2009 state election,Piwarz was again elected to the state parliament via a direct mandate in the Dresden 6 constituency. In the 5th electoral term,he was 1st deputy parliamentary group leader and parliamentary manager of the CDU parliamentary group,as well as a member of the Committee on Rules of Procedure and Immunity Matters,the Election Scrutiny Committee,and from April 2012 to 2014,one of 19 members of the Saxon NSU investigation committee,"Neo-Nazi terror networks in Saxony".
In the 2014 state election in Saxony,Piwarz again won the direct mandate in his constituency (now Dresden 2 following a constituency reform). The CDU parliamentary group again elected him 1st deputy parliamentary group leader and parliamentary manager. He was a member of the 14th and 15th Federal Convention for the election of the Federal President.
The Landtag of Saxony,also known in English as the Saxon State Parliament,is the legislature of the Free State of Saxony,one of Germany's sixteen states. It is responsible for legislation,control of the government,and electing some state officials. The Landtag has existed in various forms since 1831,but the current body was established during German reunification in 1990. The Landtag is directly elected and has a term of five years.
