Christopher Slaski (born 3 September 1974) is a composer who has created music for films, [1] [2] television, theatre and live performance. He is a past recipient of the award for Best Young European Film Composer presented by the World Soundtrack Academy in Ghent and in 2017 his score for A Good American was nominated for best music by the Austrian Film Academy. He is a member of the European Film Academy.
Slaski holds a music degree from Cambridge University and a postgraduate in composition from London's The Royal Academy of Music. He also attended master classes by Ennio Morricone at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana, Siena, Italy and studied conducting with Lawrence Leonard.
Slaski has written scores for feature films, including Kevin Spacey's Beyond The Sea , [3] The Pianotuner Of Earthquakes, [2] [4] [5] [6] the Spanish romantic-comedy Semen, una historia de amor , The Asylum, [7] and the thriller Proyecto Dos. In 2009 he scored the Goya-nominated The Shame , by Spanish writer-director David Planell and in 2011 Rue Huvelin.
Slaski's score for the Spanish-French film Cuadrilatero, performed by the Brodsky Quartet, won awards at four international film festivals. In 2011 he won the prize for Best Original Score at the Rhodes Island International Film Festival for his work on Hollow, directed by Rob Sorrenti. In 2005 his score for the Spanish film Semen, A Love Story was nominated for Best Spanish Score by the Premios de la Crítica Musical Cinematográfica Española [8]
He has also composed music for television, including documentaries, animated films and dramas for BBC, ITV and Channel 4. He has collaborated with BAFTA-winning director Beryl Richards on several occasions.
Slaski has written scores for theatrical productions, [9] [10] including Lope de Vega's El Perro Del Hortelano (The Dog In The Manger) directed by Laurence Boswell.
Slaski has written concert music, most notably the Frank Lloyd Wright Suite, recorded by the London Symphony Orchestra, as well as music for over 50 commercials and also arrangements and orchestrations for both pop and classical artists. [11]
In 2016 the documentary film A Good American, directed by Fritz Moser, with music by Slaski, was screened at the CPH:DOX Festival in Denmark. [12] His score was nominated for the Österreichische Filmpreis (Austrian Film Award) in 2017 and the soundtrack was released by Quartet Records.
Ennio Morricone was an Italian composer, orchestrator, conductor, trumpeter, and pianist who wrote music in a wide range of styles. With more than 400 scores for cinema and television, as well as more than 100 classical works, Morricone is widely considered one of the most prolific and greatest film composers of all time. He has received numerous accolades including two Academy Awards, three Grammy Awards, three Golden Globes, six BAFTAs, ten David di Donatello, eleven Nastro d'Argento, two European Film Awards, the Golden Lion Honorary Award, and the Polar Music Prize in 2010.
Philip Glass is an American composer and pianist. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential composers of the late 20th century. Glass's work has been associated with minimalism, being built up from repetitive phrases and shifting layers. Glass describes himself as a composer of "music with repetitive structures", which he has helped to evolve stylistically.
Michael Laurence Nyman, CBE is an English composer, pianist, librettist, musicologist, and filmmaker. He is known for numerous film scores, and his multi-platinum soundtrack album to Jane Campion's The Piano. He has written a number of operas, including The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat; Letters, Riddles and Writs; Noises, Sounds & Sweet Airs; Facing Goya; Man and Boy: Dada; Love Counts; and Sparkie: Cage and Beyond. He has written six concerti, five string quartets, and many other chamber works, many for his Michael Nyman Band. He is also a performing pianist. Nyman prefers to write opera over other forms of music.
Stephen and Timothy Quay are American identical twin brothers and stop-motion animators who are better known as the Brothers Quay or Quay Brothers. They received the 1998 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Set Design for their work on the play The Chairs.
Georges Delerue was a French composer who composed over 350 scores for cinema and television. Delerue won numerous important film music awards, including an Academy Award for A Little Romance (1980), three César Awards, two ASCAP Awards, and one Gemini Award for Sword of Gideon (1987). He was also nominated for four additional Academy Awards for Anne of the Thousand Days (1969), The Day of the Dolphin (1973), Julia (1977), and Agnes of God (1985), four additional César Awards, three Golden Globe Awards, and one Genie Award for Black Robe (1991).
Carter Benedict Burwell is an American film composer. He has frequently collaborated with the Coen brothers, having scored most of their films. He has also scored films by other directors such as Bill Condon, Todd Haynes, Spike Jonze, Martin McDonagh, James Foley, Brian Helgeland, and John Lee Hancock. Burwell received Academy Award nominations for Best Original Score for Haynes's Carol (2015) and McDonagh's films Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017), and The Banshees Of Inisherin (2022).

CPH:DOX is the official name for the Copenhagen International Documentary Film Festival, an international documentary film festival established in 2003 and held annually in Copenhagen, Denmark. CPH:DOX has since grown to become one of the largest documentary film festivals in Europe with 114,408 admissions in 2019.
Charles Ira Fox is an American composer for film and television. His compositions include the sunshine pop musical backgrounds which accompanied every episode of the 1970s ABC-TV show Love, American Style; the theme song for the late 1970s ABC series The Love Boat; and the dramatic theme music to ABC's Wide World of Sports and the original Monday Night Football; as well as the Grammy-winning hit song "Killing Me Softly with His Song", written in collaboration with Lori Lieberman and Fox's longtime writing partner, Norman Gimbel.
Emilio Kauderer is an Argentine composer, orchestrator and songwriter residing in Los Angeles. He is best known for his scores for films including "Metegol (Underdogs)", "Secret in Their Eyes", and "A Place In the World". Kauderer won a Latin Grammy for his work on Bajofondo's 2002 album "Bajofondo Tango Club".
Cold Mountain is the soundtrack for the Civil War film Cold Mountain (2003) starring Jude Law, Nicole Kidman, and Renée Zellweger. The album was nominated for two Grammy Awards and was produced by T Bone Burnett. Two songs were nominated for Academy Awards: "You Will Be My Ain True Love", written by Sting, and "The Scarlet Tide", written by Burnett and Elvis Costello. Both songs were sung by Alison Krauss.
Otello is a 1986 film based on the Giuseppe Verdi opera of the same name, which was itself based on the Shakespearean play Othello. The film was directed by Franco Zeffirelli and starred Plácido Domingo in the title role, Katia Ricciarelli as Desdemona and Justino Díaz as Iago. For the film's soundtrack, Lorin Maazel conducted the Orchestra and Chorus of the Teatro alla Scala. The film premiered in West Germany on 28 August 1986 and received a U.S. theatrical release on 12 September 1986. It was nominated for a Bafta Award and a Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film.

The Look of Silence is a 2014 internationally co-produced documentary film directed by Joshua Oppenheimer about the Indonesian mass killings of 1965–66. The film is a companion piece to his 2012 documentary The Act of Killing. Executive producers were Werner Herzog, Errol Morris, and Andre Singer. It was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature at the 88th Academy Awards.
Look at What the Light Did Now is a documentary/live album DVD/CD by Canadian indie pop artist Feist, first released in December 2010. The DVD comprises an 80-minute documentary directed by Anthony Seck, five music videos from 2007 album The Reminder, and a number of live performances recorded between 2007 and 2009, including covers of songs by artists such as Little River Band and Ron Sexsmith.
