Christopher Sluka

Christopher Sluka (born in 1962) is an American singer, songwriter, and pilot. [1] [2] Sluka has released 13 studio albums. [3] He is the founder of the flight school, Learn to Fly San Diego.

Early life

Born into a military family, he was raised all over the USA and Europe. In 1981, Sluka studied music theory and composition at New York University and then joined Queens College to complete his bachelor's degree in communication and media studies. He earned a Master's Degree in Aeronautical Science in 2006 from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. [4]

Career

In the late 1980s, Sluka started his band, Sluka, and played at several venues in New York, including CBGBs, The Ritz, and The Palladium. [5] [6] In 1989 he released his first full-length album, Emotional Battlefield, by Meldac. [7]

Sluka performed on the Japanese television network Kanagawa on March 12, 1990. [7] In the same year, he released another album, Fear of Ordinary Life, released in Europe on SAAR Records. [8] [9] [10] In 1993, Time Warner's Italian subsidiary CDG Wave released the third Sluka album. [11] [7] In 1994, Sluka launched his record label, Steel Flower Music and released many albums including, Introversions under it. [12]

In March 2019, Sluka began recording the album, Ready to Connect, working with Grammy Award winning producer and engineer Alan Sanderson. [13] [14] The second single, Hey Oh, was released on September 26, followed by the album on October 31st, 2019. [9] [15] In the following year, the video for the song, VIP, was released on Valentine's Day 2020. [16] On October 31st, 2021, Sluka, with Alan Sanderson producing again, released their 13th album, Figure It Out. [14] [17]

Sluka was featured in several independent films as an actor and stunt pilot including, Vampire's Kiss (1989), Beach Bar: The Movie (2011), and La Migra (2014). [18]

"Hey, Hey, Rise Up!" is a song by the English rock band Pink Floyd, released on streaming and downloading platforms on 8 April 2022. It is based on a 1914 Ukrainian anthem, "Oh, the Red Viburnum in the Meadow", and features vocals in Ukrainian by Andriy Khlyvnyuk of the Ukrainian band BoomBox. The track is the first entirely new piece of music recorded by Pink Floyd since "Louder than Words" was released with The Endless River in 2014. Guitarist David Gilmour was inspired to record it in support of Ukraine during the 2022 Russian invasion. The band both released the track as a single commercially and also put out a music video, directed by Mat Whitecross, centered around images of life struggling amidst warfare. A physical edition of the single on CD and vinyl was released on 15 July 2022, which also included a new version of "A Great Day for Freedom".
