Chwarae Teg ( Welsh for 'Fair Play') is a charity in Wales supporting the economic development of women, as well as working with businesses and organisations to develop and improve working practices. [1]
Chwarae Teg was launched by a consortium in 1992 in South Wales, and Jane Hutt, now a minister in the Welsh Government, was appointed its first director.
In 2009 Chwarae Teg launched their European Social Fund and Welsh Government sponsored project, Agile Nation (more details below). Referred to as "Chwarae Teg Agile Nation project #1", the project was completed in March 2015.
On 22 July 2015 Chwarae Teg launched another European Social Fund and Welsh Government sponsored project, "Agile Nation #2". [2]
Launched in 2009 and completed in March 2015, the Chwarae Teg Agile Nation project aimed to promote gender equality, support the career advancement of women and contribute to a reduction in the gender pay gap. Agile Nation was a £12.5 million project funded by the European Social Fund and the Welsh Government. [3]
The project had two training programs: Ascent (targeted at individual women) and Evolve (targeted at employers). [4] These helped over 2,921 individual women and 504 businesses as of March 2015.
Chwarae Teg's policy function monitors economic and workforce developments that impact on women and business across Wales and provides advice to academia, government and industry. This knowledge is used to identify areas where new targeted projects can be developed to address areas of under-representation of women in the workplace. [5]
Chwarae Teg is a registered charity which offers membership to individuals, businesses, organisations and institutions.

Jane Dodds is a Welsh politician who has served as Leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats since 2017. She was elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Brecon and Radnorshire at the seat's 2019 by-election, but was an MP for only three months before being defeated in the general election later the same year. In May 2021, Dodds was elected to the Senedd on the Mid and West Wales list. She is the only Liberal Democrat MS in the Senedd.
Jessica Leigh Jones is a Welsh engineer and astrophysicist from Cardiff. She is credited with becoming the first female to win the UK Young Engineer of the Year Award in 2012 for her work designing a portable uterine contraction monitor which cut manufacturing costs by 99%. She was later rewarded for her efforts to commercialise the technology, receiving the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Intel Inspiration Award for Entrepreneurship in the same year.
Emma Yhnell is a British scientist, science communicator and senior lecturer based at Cardiff University. She has previously conducted research on computerised cognitive training and Huntington's disease. An advocate for public engagement and science communication, and a STEM ambassador, Yhnell won the British Science Association's Charles Darwin Award Lecture for Agricultural, Biological and Medical Sciences and the British Neuroscience Association's Public Engagement Award.
