Ciglane is a neighborhood in Sarajevo, one of the 15 neighborhoods in the Municipality of Centar Sarajevo. It was constructed on the hill Crni Vrh during the 1970s. [1] Known for its brutalist design, it stands out from surrounding areas. It is also the only neighborhood in the city with its own lift, called the Kosi Lift. [2] Ciglane is noted for its high crime rate, mostly involving petty theft, making it unsafe at night. The name "Ciglane" comes from the German word for brick, "Die Ziegel". [3]

Education

Ciglane has three schools: one elementary school, one high school, and one international high school. These are Elementary School "Hasan Kikić," High School "Druga Gimnazija," [4] and the International High School "QSI." [5] All schools are accessible by car, walking, or biking. "OS Hasan Kikić," opened in 1956, provides nine years of education, though the school faces challenges with outdated facilities due to limited government funding. [6]

Both high schools, "Druga Gimnazija" and "QSI," offer quality four-year education and are in better condition compared to nearby schools. While "Druga Gimnazija" is a public school, QSI is an international school, conducting classes in English, with an annual tuition of $10,000. This allows children in Ciglane to receive a good education with experienced teachers for 12-13 years without leaving their neighborhood. [7] [5]
