City Of Angels FC is a Los Angeles area men's soccer club based in the San Fernando Valley [1] in Los Angeles, California. They most recently played in the National Premier Soccer League.

History

The foundation of City of Angels FC was announced on January 1, 2017. [2] Its owners are PJ Harrison and Joe Sumner. In July 2017, the club announced [3] Cobi Jones had joined as Director of Football.

The club was established with a view to help an underserviced soccer community in the San Fernando Valley, in particular providing access to affordable youth soccer and creating a pathway to the professional game.

In July 2017, the club partnered with Manchester United and the Manchester United Foundation to host free youth clinics in San Fernando Valley.

The club's badge was created by LA streetwear brand Undefeated.

Banc of California Stadium is a soccer-specific stadium in the Exposition Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. It is the home of Major League Soccer's Los Angeles FC and the National Women's Soccer League's Angel City FC. Opened on April 18, 2018, it was the first open-air stadium built in the City of Los Angeles since 1962. Constructed on the site of the former Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena, it is located next to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and just south of the main campus of the University of Southern California. Los Angeles FC subleases the site from the University which has a master lease with the LA Memorial Coliseum Commission for operating and managing the Coliseum and stadium properties.

2018 Los Angeles FC season Los Angeles FC 2018 football season

The 2018 Los Angeles FC season was the club's inaugural season, and their first season in Major League Soccer, the top-tier of the American soccer pyramid. Los Angeles FC play its home games at the Banc of California Stadium in Exposition Park neighborhood of Los Angeles. Outside of MLS play, LAFC participated in the 2018 U.S. Open Cup tournament, and qualified for the 2018 MLS Cup Playoffs, being eliminated in the knockout round.

Soccer has enjoyed longstanding popularity in Los Angeles. As of 2019 there are two professional soccer clubs in Los Angeles County that play in Major League Soccer: LA Galaxy and Los Angeles FC. The Los Angeles area is also home to two Division 2 professional teams in the USL Championship: Orange County SC and LA Galaxy II, the reserve side of LA Galaxy, and many semi-professional clubs and leagues including the United Premier Soccer League, SoCal Premier League and National Premier Soccer League, among others. In 2019, two more professional teams, Cal FC and California United Strikers FC joined a new, unsanctioned, professional league called the NPSL Founders Cup They both later left, with Cal FC joining the United Premier Soccer League and California United Strikers joined the Division 3 semi-professional National Independent Soccer Association, where they joined LA Force. Angel City FC plans to start play in the National Women's Soccer League, the only fully professional women's league in the U.S., in 2022.

National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) owners own a share in the National Women's Soccer League and have the right to operate a team. Players' rights to play in the league are controlled by a team. Each NWSL team has an investor-operator that is a shareholder in the league. The league has a profit-sharing arrangement amongst the teams.

The 2022 field features 103 clubs, 71 of them fully professional—both modern-era records.
