Clermont-Ferrand Université Club was a French multisports club from Clermont-Ferrand, best known for its women's basketball team.

Clermont-Ferrand is a city and commune of France, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, with a population of 141,569 (2012). Its metropolitan area had 467,178 inhabitants at the 2011 census. It is the prefecture (capital) of the Puy-de-Dôme department. Olivier Bianchi is its current mayor.

Women's basketball is one of the few women's sports that developed in tandem with its men's counterpart. It became popular, spreading from the east coast of the United States to the west coast, in large part via women's colleges. From 1895 until 1970, the term "women's basketball" was also used to refer to netball, which evolved in parallel with modern women's basketball. It is mostly popular in America.

While the club was founded in 1921 as a rugby club, the basketball section was opened in 1964. It soon became the major powerhouse in the French scene, winning a record twelve national championships in a row between 1968 and 1979. [1]

The Ligue Féminine de Basketball is the top women's French professional basketball league.

In 1971 Clermont became the first team from Western Europe to reach the final of the European Cup, losing it to Soviet powerhouse Daugava Riga. Clermont reached four more European Cup finals throughout the 1970s, consolidating itself as one of the best European teams, but it wasn't able to win the competition, losing the 1973, 1974 and 1977 championships to Daugava and the 1976 one to Sparta Prague. Nominally a union of multiple national Soviet republics, its government and economy were highly centralized. The country was a one-party state, governed by the Communist Party with Moscow as its capital in its largest republic, the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic. Other major urban centres were Leningrad, Kiev, Minsk, Alma-Ata, and Novosibirsk. It spanned over 10,000 kilometres east to west across 11 time zones, and over 7,200 kilometres north to south. It had five climate zones: tundra, taiga, steppes, desert and mountains.

TTT Riga Latvian womens basketball team from Riga

TTT Rīga is the name of a professional women's basketball club based in Riga, Latvia. "TTT" means Tram and Trolley Trust. Team held its first official game on 5 November 1958. Next 25 years are known as the First Golden age of the club. Internationally club was known also as Daugava Riga, in fact Daugava was predecessor of TTT Riga in 1950s.

The team declined after winning in 1981 its final national championship, and was disbanded in 1985.

The Top 14 is a professional rugby union club competition that is played in France created in 1892. The Top 14 is at the top of the national league system operated by the French National Rugby League, also known by its French initialism of LNR. Although the rugby section changed its name to the current ASM Clermont Auvergne in 2004, it is still frequently referred to as Montferrand both within and outside France.

Knattspyrnufélagið Valur is an Icelandic athletic club based in Reykjavík, Iceland. The club is situated close to the city centre, in the east side of town, on the former farmland of Hlíðarendi. The club was originally formed as part of the local YMCA to play association football, but later incorporated handball and basketball. Valur's handball section reached the EHF Champions League final in 1980. It has won the Icelandic league 22 times, more than any other N1 deildin team.

Clermont Foot association football club

Clermont Foot 63 is a French association football club based in Clermont-Ferrand. The first incarnation of the club was formed in 1911 and the current club was created in 1990 as a result of a merger. Clermont currently play in Ligue 2, the second level of French football having achieved promotion to the league after winning the 2006–07 edition of the Championnat National. The club plays its home matches at the Stade Gabriel Montpied located within the city. Between 2014 and 2017 Clermont were managed by Corinne Diacre the first woman to manage a men's professional football match. They are captained by Cameroonian Eugène Ekobo. As of the 2017-2018 season, Clermont have never played in Ligue 1 and have one of the longest continuing spells of any team in Ligue 2.

WBC Spartak Noginsk is a Russian women's basketball club from Noginsk, Moscow Oblast founded in 1949. During the Soviet era it was the women's basketball section of Spartak Moscow. The team enjoyed its golden era between 1977 and 1982, winning three Ronchetti Cups and one Soviet Championship. It played one further Ronchetti Cup final in 1983, and it was the championship's runner-up in seven occasions between 1968 and 1982, second to Daugava Riga.

The 1975–76 FIBA Women's European Champions Cup was the 18th edition of FIBA Europe's competition for women's basketball national champion clubs, running from October 1975 to March 1976. The Soviet Union didn't take part in the competition, ending Daugava Riga's record 12-year winning streak, and Sparta Prague defeated Clermont UC in the last final played as a two-legged tie to become the first Czechoslovak team to win the trophy.

The 1976–77 FIBA Women's European Champions Cup was the 19th edition of FIBA Europe's competition for women's basketball national champion clubs, running from October 1976 to March 1977. For the first time the final was played as a single match in a neutral venue, with Daugava Riga defeating Clermont UC in Barcelona to win its 16th title.
