CoinWeek is an American internet-based publication that publishes articles, analysis, news, videos and podcasts about a wide range of numismatic topics. It is one of the leading online publications for coin collectors in the North American market, winning more than two-dozen Numismatic Literary Guild (NLG) Awards since its launch in 2011.
Work began on CoinWeek in 2010 as an evolution of the website CoinLink, founded by Scott Purvis in 1995.CoinLink was one of the Internet's first numismatic resources that connected coin dealers to collectors, presenting collectors with lists and profiles of many of the rare coin industry's leading dealers. As the site evolved, it began to aggregate press releases and news articles from the industry's leading companies and offer collectors original news and editorial content—such as articles by numismatic blogger Greg Reynolds, among others.
In 2009, Purvis conceptualized a new website that would serve as a free daily online coin magazine. He formed a creative partnership with videographer David Lisot. Lisot had previously operated a numismatic video production service called CoinTelevision.With CoinWeek, Lisot travelled the country, providing short video segments for the website while continuing to produce full-length videos for CoinTelevision. Purvis managed the website and, over time, hired a team of editorial writers that included Al Doyle, Louis Golino, Charles Morgan and Hubert Walker.
CoinWeek grew rapidly and soon won a Numismatic Literary Guild Award for Best Online Coin Website. CoinWeek’s writers and videographer David Lisot were honored by the NLG for their contributions as well.
Scott Purvis sought to expand the scope of CoinWeek in 2014. Already a daily publication, Purvis envisioned a site that would be a head-to-head competitor to the hobby’s leading print publications. He promoted writer Charles Morgan to the position of Content Manager in February 2014, and then again to the role of editor in July of that year. Purvis shifted his focus to site development.
Morgan saw the need to transform the website into a collector-friendly site focused on education, analysis and the aspirational aspects of coin collecting. He widened CoinWeek’s focus to cover ancient coins (bringing author Mike Markowitz on board for a biweekly series), world coins, modern coins, and the cultural and economic aspects of numismatic history. In 2015, Morgan brought on Hubert Walker as assistant editor.
At the end of 2014, Morgan began to produce videos, giving CoinWeek two video production teams. Morgan’s videos focused on contemporary numismatic topics (the "CoinWeek Weekly Report") and in-depth educational topics (CoinWeek IQ).
When David Lisot exited the company in December 2015, Morgan rejuvenated CoinWeek’s multi-media offerings, shifting production to 4K and focusing on topics that were more in-sync with the website’s aspirational and educational focus. To date CoinWeek has published more than 1,250 videos on its YouTube channel. One of its most popular offerings is a video entitled "Uncool Coins! - The Tale of the 1850 Double Eagle".
YouTube is an American video-sharing platform headquartered in San Bruno, California. Three former PayPal employees—Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim—created the service in February 2005. Google bought the site in November 2006 for US$1.65 billion; YouTube now operates as one of Google's subsidiaries.
In November 2016, CoinWeek introduced the CoinWeek Podcast, a weekly audio program that presents feature articles, commentary, and in-depth interviews with leading industry figures. The CoinWeek Podcast earned an NLG Award for Best Audio Program for Morgan's interview with "Women on 20s" founder Barbara Ortiz Howard.

The American Numismatic Association (ANA) is a Colorado Springs, Colorado organization founded in 1891 by Dr. George F. Heath. It was formed to advance the knowledge of numismatics along educational, historical, and scientific lines, as well as to enhance interest in the hobby.
The Numismatist is the monthly publication of the American Numismatic Association. Its current editor-in-chief is Barbara Gregory, who has served in this role since October 1988. The Numismatist contains articles written on such topics as coins, tokens, medals, paper money, and stock certificates. All members of the American Numismatic Association receive the publication as part of their membership benefits.
The National Lawyers Guild(NLG) is a progressive public interest association of lawyers, law students, paralegals, jailhouse lawyers, law collective members, and other activist legal workers, in the United States. The group was founded in 1937 as an alternative to the American Bar Association (ABA) in protest of that organization's exclusionary membership practices and conservative political orientation. They were the first US bar association to allow the admission of minorities to their ranks. The group sought to bring more lawyers closer to the labor movement and progressive political activities, to support and encourage lawyers otherwise "isolated and discouraged," and to help create a "united front" against Fascism.
Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) is a coin grading, authentication, attribution, and encapsulation service founded in 1985. The intent of its seven founding dealers, including the firm's president David Hall, was to standardize grading. The firm has divisions in Europe and Asia, and is owned by parent company Collectors Universe. PCGS has graded over 38 million coins valued at over $33 billion.
The American Numismatic Society (ANS) is a New York City-based organization dedicated to the study of coins and medals. Founded in 1858, it is the only American museum devoted exclusively to their preservation and study. Its collection encompasses nearly one million items, including medals and paper money, as well as the world's most comprehensive library of numismatic literature. Its main exhibition Drachmas, Doubloons and Dollars: The History of Money is on view at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York in Lower Manhattan.
The Royal Canadian Numismatic Association was founded in 1950. It is a nonprofit association for coin collectors and other people interested in Canadian numismatics. It has members throughout Canada and in other countries. At times, it also works with the Canadian Association for Numismatic Education (CAFNE), an arms length organization, which is defined by the CRA as a Canadian educational and charitable organization. CAFNE provides funding for some of the RCNA's educational seminars and publications.
COINage, a bi-monthly American special-interest magazine, targets numismatists and coin investors. Behn-Miller Publications, Inc. - under the joint ownership of Gordon Behn and COINage editorial director James L. Miller - originally published the magazine on a quarterly basis. In 1965 the magazine moved to a bimonthly publishing schedule, before moving to a monthly publishing schedule from 1966 until 2019.

Quentin David Bowers is an American numismatist, author, and columnist. Beginning in 1952, Bowers’s contributions to numismatics have continued uninterrupted and unabated to the present day. He has been involved in the selling of rare coins since 1953 when he was a teenager.
Russell Alphonse Rulau was an American numismatist. He was involved in coin collecting for over 60 years. From his earliest days as a casual collector, Rulau contributed to numismatics as a writer, editor and club organizer. His interest in world coins led him to create the "Coin of the Year" award. The award is presented annually by Krause Publications' World Coin News. Rulau coined the term "exonumia" in 1960.
The Celator was a monthly magazine covering ancient coins and the ancient coin market. It was founded in 1987 by coin dealer Wayne Sayles in a newsprint format. The Celator was then edited and published by Kerry Wetterstrom in magazine format. From 1988 to 1995 a yearly Best of The Celator was printed. The magazine was based in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
David Bruce Hendin is an expert American numismatist specializing in ancient Jewish and Biblical coins and their archaeology. Throughout his career, Hendin has also been known as a medical journalist, newspaper columnist, publishing executive, literary agent, and author. The Burnett Anderson Memorial Award for Excellence in Numismatic Writing is an annual award for numismatics. Presented annually to an author, journalist or researcher in recognition of their career contributions to the hobby, the award is sponsored by F&W Publications, and the winner is selected in a cooperative process by the American Numismatic Association (ANA), the American Numismatic Society (ANS) and the Numismatic Literary Guild (NLG).
