Cola is a post-punk band from Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The band consists of Tim Darcy (vocals, guitar), Ben Stidworthy (bass), and Evan Cartwright (drums).
The band's roots trace back to late 2019, when members of Ought, Tim Darcy and Ben Stidworthy, began writing music with Evan Cartwright of U.S. Girls. Darcy and Sidworthy were in Montreal at the time, while Cartwright was in Toronto. [1] After informal writing and music sessions, the members began exchanging lyrics and song ideas into 2020 and 2021. In November 2021, the band Ought announced their disbandment, and announced the band, Cola the same day. With the announcement of the band was the release of their debut single, "Blank Curtain". [2] The song was met with critical praise, with Rob Sheffield of Rolling Stone describing the song having a "gorgeously obsessive guitar groove". [3] The band told Destroy Exist that the song, "is a quarter note kick drum pushing 240 bpm, a drone-like chord progression, and declarative vocals cutting through the haze. If you could invert the color of the Blank Curtain, you might have something like a Chicago house track that sounds like a band in a room." [4]
On February 22, 2022, the band announced their debut studio album, Deep in View . [5] The album was released on May 20, 2022.
In April 2024, Cola announced their sophomore record, The Gloss , and released the record on June 14, 2024, through Fire Talk Records.
Guided by Voices is an American indie rock band formed in 1983 in Dayton, Ohio. It has made frequent personnel changes but always maintained the presence of principal songwriter Robert Pollard. The most well-known lineup of the band consisted of Pollard, his brother Jim, Mitch Mitchell, Tobin Sprout, Kevin Fennell (drums), and bassist Greg Demos. Noted at first for its lo-fi aesthetic and Portastudio four-tracks-to-cassette production methods, Guided by Voices' music was influenced by early post–British Invasion garage rock, psychedelic rock, progressive rock, punk rock and post-punk. The band has had a prolific output, releasing 40 full-length albums along with many other releases, and has garnered a dedicated cult following. Their songs are known for their frequent brevity and for ending abruptly or intertwining with homemade sound effects.

Afrique Victime is the sixth album by the Tuareg musician Mdou Moctar and his first on Matador Records. The album, which was released on 21 May 2021, is sung almost entirely in Tamasheq and some parts in French. Its lyrics concern sexism, war crimes, and colonialism. The album contains acoustic-rock music with some hints of local desert blues. Moctar and his band worked on Afrique Victime while he was touring for his 2019 album Ilana: The Creator, recording in studios and other places. To promote Afrique Victime, the band went on tour in 2022 and released a companion documentary about the creation of the album, showing the difficulties the band members faced by living on two continents—Africa and North America.
