Coleford is a small hamlet in Mid-Devon, England. [1] [2] It includes a pub, The New Inn with their resident parrot of over 40 years Captain, and also has a park.
Coleford Junction at nearby Penstone is the place where the Tarka Line from Crediton to Barnstaple splits from the later Dartmoor line to Okehampton.
Charles I came through Coleford on 27 July 1644 on his way to Bow, where he spent a night during the English Civil War. At that time Coleford village was on the main highway from Cornwall to Devon. There is a tradition that the King reviewed his horse troop, from the "Porched House", a building which dates from this time.
Henry Kingsley's novel The Recollections of Geoffry Hamlyn is set partly in the village.
Crediton is a town and civil parish in the Mid Devon district of Devon in England. It stands on the A377 Exeter to Barnstaple road at the junction with the A3072 road to Tiverton, about 7 miles (11 km) north west of Exeter and around 14 miles (23 km) from the M5 motorway. It has a population of 8,304. However, the combined population of the parishes that make up the Crediton area is estimated to be 21,990.
Ilsington is a village and civil parish situated on the eastern edge of Dartmoor, Devon, England. It is one of the largest parishes in the county, and includes the villages of Ilsington, Haytor Vale, Liverton and South Knighton. The parish is surrounded, clockwise from the north, by the parishes of Bovey Tracey, Teigngrace, Newton Abbot, Ogwell, Bickington, Ashburton, Widecombe-in-the-Moor and Manaton. Penstone is a hamlet of some 21 houses in Devon, England, about 1 mile (2 km) from the villages of Colebrooke and Coleford, close to the point where the Exeter-Barnstaple and former Exeter-Okehampton rail lines diverge; the latter is now a freight line but there has recently been talk of reopening it to passenger traffic and extending it to Plymouth in order to avoid the shoreline track at Dawlish Warren which has recently been washed away several times by winter storms. The nearest stations are Yeoford and Copplestone.

The East Webburn is a stream in the Dartmoor moors in Devon in south-west England. It rises on the western side of the moors flowing off the west side of Hameldown ridge. Its source is less than 1 kilometre south west of Grimspound Bronze Age settlement. It flows south past Widecombe-in-the-Moor and joins the West Webburn River. These combined streams then join the River Dart close to the village of Holne.
The West Webburn is a stream on Dartmoor in Devon in south-west England. It rises on the eastern side of the moors flowing off the east side of Hameldown Ridge. Its source is extremely close to the Grimspound Bronze Age settlement, and it was probably the main source of water for the settlement. It flows south, going past Widecombe-in-the-Moor, and joins the East Webburn River at Lizwell Meet in Oakmoor Wood. These combined streams then join the River Dart at Buckland Bridge in Holne Chase.

The Exeter to Plymouth railway of the London and South Western Railway (LSWR) was the westernmost part of a route competing with that of the Great Western Railway (GWR) and its 'associated companies' from London and Exeter to Plymouth in Devon, England. Whereas the GWR route from Exeter followed the coast to Newton Abbot and then went around the southern edge of Dartmoor, the LSWR route followed the northern and western margins of Dartmoor, passing through the towns of Crediton, Okehampton, and Tavistock.

Okehampton Parkway is a proposed railway station in Okehampton on the Dartmoor Line. The station would be part of the Devon Metro and has been described as a priority station. The station is to be sited at the A30 junction at Stockley Hamlet and would be sited at the Business Park at Okehampton as well as serving a further 900 homes close to the site.
