Congress of Nigerian University Academics (CONUA) is a secession of Academic Staff Union of Universities. [1] [2] [3] [4] The union is led by Niyi Sunmonu from Obafemi Awolowo University. It was established in 2018 and was not certified until October 2022 by the Minister of Labour and Employment Senator Chris Ngige following the failure of the Federal Government of Nigeria and Academic Staff Union of Universities to reach a conclusion that can put an end to the thirty three weeks labour strike that started in February 2022 [5] [6] [7] [8]

Chief Obafemi Jeremiah Oyeniyi Awolowo was a Nigerian nationalist and statesman who played a key role in Nigeria's independence movement (1957-1960). Awolowo founded the Yoruba nationalist group Egbe Omo Oduduwa, and was the first Leader of Government Business and Minister of Local Government and Finance, and first Premier of the Western Region under Nigeria's parliamentary system, from 1952 to 1959. He was the official Leader of the Opposition in the federal parliament to the Balewa government from 1959 to 1963.

Prince Abubakar Audu University,(Formerly Kogi State University) located at Anyigba, is a state-owned university of Kogi, Nigeria. It was established in 1999 by Prince Abubakar Audu, the former governor of the state. At the time of its establishment, it was known as Kogi State University, It was later renamed Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU) in 2020, after the then sitting governor of Kogi State, who heralded its establishment, and later renamed Kogi State University (KSU) in 2003 by the former governor Ibrahim Idris and subsequently renamed as Prince Abubakar Audu University in 2020 by Governor Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello in respect of late Abubakar Audu.

Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) is a federal university in Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria. The university was founded in 1961 and classes commenced in October 1962 as the University of Ife by the regional government of Western Nigeria, which was led by Samuel Ladoke Akintola. It was renamed "Obafemi Awolowo University" on 12 May 1987, so by the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida led military administration, in honour of Obafemi Awolowo (1909–1987), the first premier of the Western Region of Nigeria, who initially thought of the idea of establishing the university.

University of Ilorin, also known as Unilorin, is a federal government-owned university in Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria. It was established by a decree of the federal military government in August, 1975. The establishment aimed to implement one of the educational directives of the Third National Development Plan, which was aimed at providing more opportunities for Nigerians aspiring to acquire university education and to generate high-level manpower, which is vital for the rapidly expanding economy. Compared to other higher institutions of learning in the country, the institution has one of the largest land areas, covering approximately 15,000 hectares of land. It is reported by Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) to be the most sought-after Nigerian university in 2021. And again in 2023, it was announced by the JAMB Head, Professor Ishaq Oloyede to be the sought-after University, for the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME), making it for the 10th consecutive year.

The Students' Union of Obafemi Awolowo University, popularly addressed as Great Ife Students' Union, is the leading and most vibrant Students' Union in Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa. The Obafemi Awolowo University Students' Union is the body of the over thirty-five thousand students of the first class Nigerian University.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is a Nigerian union of university academic staff, founded in 1978. ASUU is an offshoot of the Nigerian Association of University Teachers (NAUT) which was established in 1965. At that time, NAUT consisted of only five universities in total including University of Ibadan, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, University of Ife and University of Lagos. Professor Victor Emmanuel Osodeke emerged as the body's president on 30 May 2021.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Cyril Agodi Onwumechili</span> Nigerian academic (1932–2023)

Cyril Agodi Onwumechili was a Nigerian physicist, academic administrator, and professor of geophysics at the University of Ibadan and later University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He was the fourth Vice Chancellor of the University of Ife from January 1979 to December 1982 and the former President/Vice Chancellor of the Anambra State University of Technology, Enugu, Nigeria, from January 1983 to December 1986. He delivered the Ahiajoku lecture on 20 November 2000. He was the first Nigerian geophysicist and the second president of the Nigerian Academy of Science. He was elected as president of the Academy in 1979 to succeed Professor Victor Adenuga Oyenuga, the first emeritus professor of the University of Ibadan and the first African professor of Agricultural science.

Eyitope Ogungbenro Ogunbodede is a Nigerian academic and professor of Dentistry who was the 11th substantial Vice Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria from 2017 to 2022. He is also the founder of Dema Foundation Dental Museum, the first dental museum in Africa commissioned in 2015 which contains relics of modern Nigerian dental history.

Adebayo Simeon Bamire is a Nigerian academic and professor of agricultural economics who is the 12th substantial Vice Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, since 2022. He previously served as deputy vice chancellor academics.

Anthony Olusegun Adegbulugbe is a Nigerian professor of Energy Planning and Management, notable for his significant contributions to Nigeria's energy industry. He is the third chancellor of Joseph Ayo Babalola University and will officially resume office by December 8, 2023. Adegbulugbe served as a special adviser on Energy to Former President Olusegun Obasanjo of Nigeria. He was a Member of the National Economic Management Team, and the Chairman of the National Gas to Power initiative between 2005 and 2007. Adegbulugbe was a contributor to the inter-governmental panel on Climate change (IPCC) Assessments reports which won the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize along with former US Vice President Al Gore. He has played a crucial role in shaping energy policies in Nigeria.
