Constance "Connie" Ledoux Book is an American academic who is President of Elon University,a private university in Elon,North Carolina. On October 9,2017,the Elon Board of Trustees voted unanimously to elect Book as the ninth president of Elon. [1] [2] She became president on March 1,2018. [3] Prior to her appointment as President of Elon,Book served for two years as the first female Provost and Dean of Academic Affairs at The Citadel,The Military College of South Carolina. [1]
Book is the granddaughter of sharecroppers from Louisiana. [4]
Book received her B.J. degree from Manship School of Journalism,Louisiana State University in 1986. [5] She received her M.Ed. in Education Administration and Supervision from Northwestern State University in 1989. Book received her Ph.D. in 1993 from Grady College of Journalism at the University of Georgia. Her dissertation was titled "Municipal Officials' Attitudes toward Cable Television Regulation:A National Study." [6]
Book served as Assistant Professor of Communications at Georgia College &State University from 1993 to 1996. She served as Visiting Professor of Communications at North Carolina State University in 1996–1997 and Assistant Professor of Communications at Meredith College from 1997 to 1999. She began teaching at Elon University in 1999 and became Associate Provost at Elon in 2010. She became Provost and Dean at The Citadel in 2015 and then was named President of Elon in 2018. [1] [5]
Under Book's leadership in 2019,Elon University was recognized as a top-100 National University and as second among national universities for best undergraduate teaching. [7]
Book has been noted for her defense of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy. [8]
In 2009,Book received the Outstanding Service and Leadership Award from the North Carolina Association of Broadcasters as well as Elon University's Ward Family Excellence in Mentoring Award. [4]

Bennett College is a private historically black liberal arts college for women in Greensboro,North Carolina. The 2011–12 The Citadel Bulldogs basketball team represented The Citadel,The Military College of South Carolina in the 2011–12 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Bulldogs were led by second-year head coach Chuck Driesell and played their home games at McAlister Field House. They were a member of the South Division of the Southern Conference (SoCon). They finished the season 6–24,3–15 in SoCon play,to finish in last place in the South Division. They lost in the first round of the SoCon Basketball tournament to Western Carolina.
Kathryn Stripling Byer,also called Kay Byer,was an American poet and teacher. She was named by Governor Mike Easley as the fifth North Carolina Poet Laureate from 2005 to 2009. She was the first woman to hold the position.
The Citadel Bulldogs baseball represents The Citadel,The Military College of South Carolina in college baseball at the NCAA Division I level. The program was established in 1899,and has continuously fielded a team since 1947. Their primary rivals are College of Charleston,Furman and VMI.

Justin Tornow is an American dancer,choreographer,dance scholar,and dance teacher. She is the founder and artistic director of COMPANY,a co-founder and co-organizer of Durham Independent Dance Artists,former board president of the North Carolina Dance Alliance,and producer of the PROMPTS art series in Durham,North Carolina. Tornow is trained in Cunningham technique and is a New York Public Library Research Fellow in Cunningham dance pedagogy. She serves on the faculty at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro,Elon University,and the American Dance Festival.
Penelope Muse Abernathy is an American journalist,former media executive,author and researcher who specializes in the study of news deserts. In 2008,after senior management roles at The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal,she became the Knight Chair in Journalism and Digital Media Economics at the Hussman School of Journalism and Media at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In 2021,she was appointed a visiting professor at Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism.
Ione Holt Grogan was an American academic,mathematician,and educator. She worked as a schoolteacher in North Carolina and Georgia for twenty-two years before joining the faculty at the Woman's College of the University of North Carolina,where she was a professor of mathematics from 1935 to 1958. A dormitory,a residence college,and a scholarship at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro,are named after her. Grogan was also the president of the Reviewers Club,the oldest literary club for women in North Carolina.
Carolyn Hope Ringer Lepre is an American mass communication professor and academic administrator serving as the tenth president of Salisbury University since 2022. She was previously the provost and interim president of Radford University.
