The Queensland Reds is the rugby union team based in Brisbane for the Australian state of Queensland that competes in the Southern Hemisphere's Super Rugby competition. Prior to 1996, they were a representative team selected from the rugby union club competitions in Queensland. With the introduction of the professional Super 12 competition they moved to a model where players are contracted to the Reds through the Queensland Rugby Union rather than selected on the basis of club form.
Wayne James Bennett is an Australian professional rugby league football coach and former player. He is currently the head coach of the South Sydney Rabbitohs in the National Rugby League (NRL). Bennett has previously coached the Dolphins, the South Sydney Rabbitohs, the Brisbane Broncos, the Newcastle Knights, the St George Illawarra Dragons, the Canberra Raiders, the Queensland Maroons State of Origin team, the NRL All Stars and the Australian Kangaroos national team as well as the England and Great Britain national teams.
Bradley Carnegie Thorn is a New Zealand Australian rugby union coach and former rugby league and rugby union footballer. Born in New Zealand, he represented Australia in rugby league and New Zealand in rugby union in a twenty-two year career as a player, starting at age nineteen and finishing at age forty-one. He was the head coach of the Australian Super Rugby Pacific team, the Queensland Reds. Thorn is their second longest-serving coach in history and their longest serving coach in the professional era.
Neville Costigan is a Papua New Guinean former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 2000s and 2010s. A Papua New Guinea international and Queensland State of Origin representative forward, he played in the National Rugby League for Australian clubs the Brisbane Broncos, the Canberra Raiders, the St. George Illawarra Dragons and Newcastle Knights. Costigan then finished his career in the Super League with the Hull Kingston Rovers.
Lote Daulako Tuqiri is a former professional dual-code rugby footballer who primarily played as a winger across both codes. He represented Australia in both rugby league and rugby union, and Fiji in rugby league. Tuqiri first rose to prominence as a professional rugby league footballer for the Brisbane Broncos and Queensland Maroons, as well as the Fiji and Australia national sides. He was therefore a high-profile signing for rugby union in 2002, winning 67 caps for Australia and being a part of their 2003 and 2007 World Cup squads. He played rugby union for the Waratahs in the Super 14 and Leicester Tigers in England in season 2009–10. Tuqiri's contract with the Australian Rugby Union was terminated on 1 July 2009. No immediate reason was given, and Tuqiri returned to rugby league in 2010, playing for the Wests Tigers of the NRL. In September 2013, he signed a short-term contract with Irish rugby union giants, Leinster to play in the Pro12 in a three-month deal. Just 6 weeks out from the 2014 NRL season, Tuqiri signed with his third NRL club, the South Sydney Rabbitohs, on a one-year deal.
Digby Ioane is an Australian professional rugby union footballer who played for the Colorado Raptors in Major League Rugby (MLR).
Quade Santini Cooper is a professional rugby union player and occasional boxer. Although born in New Zealand, he has represented Australia in rugby at international level. He currently plays for Hanazono Liners in Japan, and is a former player for the Queensland Reds and the Melbourne Rebels in the Super Rugby competition in Australia. His preferred position is fly-half.
James Horwill is an Australian former rugby union player, who has played for the Australian national side, with 61 caps to his name. He captained the Wallabies a number of times, including during the 2011 Rugby World Cup. Horwill played ten seasons in Super Rugby for the Queensland Reds, followed by four seasons with English club Harlequins. His position was second row.
James David O'Connor, often referred to his initials JOC, is an Australian professional rugby union player who currently plays as a back with the Super Rugby Pacific team the Crusaders. Known for his versatility on the field, he has played multiple positions in the backline, including wing and fullback. However O'Connor's primary position is at fly-half or centre. He made his debut with the Perth-based Super Rugby team, the Western Force, and has since played for two other Super Rugby teams. O'Connor has also played domestically with English teams London Irish and Sale Sharks, as well as French team Toulon.
Jackson Hastings is a Great Britain international rugby league footballer who plays as a halfback for the Newcastle Knights in the National Rugby League (NRL).
James Tuttle is an Australian rugby union player. He is currently contracted to the Melbourne Rebels after previously playing for the Queensland Reds.
Jake McIntyre is an Australian rugby union player. He currently plays as a fly-half Perpignan in France Top 14. McIntyre was previously with Clermont in France as well as Queensland Reds and Western Force in the Super Rugby competition and Brisbane City in Australia's National Rugby Championship.
Henry Taefu is a Samoan professional Rugby Union player. He currently plays for North Harbour in the Bunnings NPC and Moana Pasifika in the Super Rugby Pacific, having previously played for the Western Force in Australia’s Super Rugby AU. His playing position is inside centre.
Thomas Banks is an Australian professional rugby union player who currently plays for Mie Honda Heat in the Japanese League One – Division 1. He has represented Australia in international rugby between 2018 and 2022. Banks started his Super Rugby career with the Queensland Reds in 2015. He has played in the National Rugby Championship (NRC) for Queensland Country and the Canberra Vikings. His preferred position is fullback or wing.
Rodney Seib is an Australian professional rugby union coach and a former player for Queensland Reds and Glasgow Warriors. He also played for Australia in rugby sevens.
Mosese Jacob Dujon Kepa Sorovi is a Fijian Australian professional rugby union player. Currently contracted to the Fijian Drua in the Super Rugby, he began his career with the Queensland Reds and joined the Melbourne Rebels briefly. He has also represented Australia at Schoolboy's level.
Liam Wright is an Australian professional rugby union player who co-captains the Queensland Reds in Super Rugby. He also played for Queensland Country in Australia's NRC. His usual position is flanker. He is also the current captain of Australia in international rugby, receiving the honour under coach Joe Schmidt for the Wallabies’ 2024 Test series against Wales and Georgia.
Millie Elliott is an Australian professional rugby league footballer who currently plays for the Sydney Roosters in the NRL Women's Premiership. Her position is prop.
Filipo Daugunu is a rugby union player who plays for the Melbourne Rebels in the Super Rugby competition. His position of choice is wing. Fijian-born, Daugunu moved to Australia in 2016 at the age of 20 to pursue a professional sporting career. He was selected to play international rugby for Australia in October 2020.
Ryan Smith is an Australian rugby union player who plays for the Queensland Reds in Super Rugby. His playing position is lock.
