The Northeast Conference (NEC) is a collegiate athletic conference whose schools are members of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Teams in the NEC compete in Division I for all sports; football competes in the Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). Participating schools are located principally in the Northeastern United States, from which the conference derives its name.
The Sacred Heart Pioneers are the 32 sports teams representing Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut in intercollegiate athletics. The Pioneers compete in the NCAA Division I and are members of the Northeast Conference, Atlantic Hockey, Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association, and New England Women's Hockey Alliance.
The 2012–2013 St. Francis Terriers men's basketball team represented St. Francis College during the 2012–13 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The team was led by third year head coach Glenn Braica, who is the reigning NEC head coach of the year. The Terrier's home games were played at the Generoso Pope Athletic Complex. They also played 2 games at the new Barclays Center in Downtown Brooklyn against Long Island in a neutral site match up and St. John's in the inaugural Brooklyn Hoops Winter Festival. The team has been a member of the Northeast Conference since 1981. They finished the season at 12–18 overall and 8–10 in the NEC to finish in eighth place, which qualified them for the NEC Basketball Tournament. They lost in the quarterfinals of the Northeast Conference Basketball tournament to number one seed Robert Morris.
The Northeast Conference men's basketball tournament is the conference championship tournament in basketball for the Northeast Conference (NEC). It has been held every year since the NEC was established in the 1981–82 season. The tournament is an eight-team single-elimination tournament and seeding is based on regular season records. The bracket is reseeded after the quarterfinals, with the highest remaining seed playing the lowest remaining seed in the semifinals. The tournament winner receives the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA basketball tournament.
The 2007 Northeast Conference men's basketball tournament was held on March 1, 4 and 7. The tournament featured the league's top eight seeds. The tourney opened on Thursday, March 1 with the quarterfinals, followed by the semifinals on Sunday, March 4 and the finals on Wednesday, March 7. Central Connecticut won the championship, its third, and received the conference's automatic bid to the 2007 NCAA Tournament.

Conference play started in early January 2016 and will conclude in March with the 2016 Northeast Conference men's basketball tournament.
The Northeast Conference Men's Basketball Coach of the Year is a basketball award given to head coaches in the Northeast Conference (NEC). The award is presented to the head coach voted to be the most successful that season by the league's coaches. The award was first given following the 1982–83 season, the second year of the conference's existence, to Matt Furjanic of Robert Morris.
The Northeast Conference Women's Basketball Coach of the Year is a basketball award given to head coaches in the Northeast Conference (NEC). The award is granted to the head coach voted to be the most successful that season by the league's coaches. The award is named in honor of Brenda Reilly, a teacher, sports administrator and three-sport coach in a career of almost three decades at Central Connecticut State University.

This was the Pioneers' 19th season of NCAA Division I basketball, all played in the Northeast Conference. The Pioneers were led by fifth-year head coach Anthony Latina and played their home games at the William H. Pitt Center in Fairfield, Connecticut. They finished the season 10–21, 5–13 in NEC play to finish in ninth place, failing to make the NEC tournament.

The 2021 Northeast Conference women's soccer tournament was the postseason women's soccer tournament for the Northeast Conference held on November 5 and 7, 2021. The three-match tournament took place at Central Connecticut Soccer Field in New Britain, Connecticut, home of the regular season champions and tournament #1 seed Central Connecticut State Blue Devils. The four-team single-elimination tournament consisted of two rounds based on seeding from regular season conference play. The defending champions were the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils, who won a tournament that was shortened to a single game in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Central Connecticut State successfully defended their title, defeating the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights 3–0 in the final. This was the twelfth Northeast Conference tournament title for the Central Connecticut women's soccer program, ten of which have come under the direction of head coach Mick D'Arcy. This was also the fourth straight title for Central Connecticut and Mick D'Arcy. As tournament champions, Central Connecticut earned the Northeast Conference's automatic berth into the 2021 NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Tournament.

The six-team single-elimination tournament consisted of three rounds based on seeding from regular season conference play. The defending champions were the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils. Central Connecticut State was unable to defend their title, losing to the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights 2–1 in the Semifinal. Fairleigh Dickinson went on to win the tournament over Sacred Heart in penalties in the Final. This was the second Northeast Conference tournament title for the Fairleigh Dickinson women's soccer program, both of which have come under the direction of head coach Eric Teepe. As tournament champions, Fairleigh Dickinson earned the Northeast Conference's automatic berth into the 2022 NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Tournament.
